When I go to rename a folder by clicking the new pencil icon, the folder name is fully selected but I cannot unselect it. For example: I want to change the name of a folder. I click the pencil icon and click in the place where I want to make a change. The field flashes, but the text remains selected and I can't change the name. This pops up EVERYTIME the page reloads on browser. I move, copy, rename, restore, etc. it reappears. I get it, I know I can do that. This and a few others in different pages keep reappearing as if I'm a new user or something. Someone please tell me how to disable these.Solved63Views0likes4Comments"There was an error downloading your file" error on the website
I keep having the same issue, connection works, have tried to clear the cache, incognito window, different browser, single file vs folder, some of them are word documents so the lightest possible thing and still get the exact same pointless message "error while downloading your file". It worked fine until yesterday so I have really no idea of what could be causing this.Solved44Views0likes3CommentsGive us an option to search for duplicate files.
I Google searched "how does a software program locate duplicate files on a computer". These are the results plus a nice little YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEgAwXGVds4. Duplicate file finders work by comparing files based on their content (using checksums or hash functions) and/or metadata (like file name, size, modification date). By analyzing these attributes, the software can identify files that are identical or very similar, even if they have different names. Here's a more detailed breakdown: 1. Hashing/Checksums: The most reliable method for identifying duplicates involves calculating a unique "fingerprint" for each file's content, often using hash functions like MD5 or SHA256. If two files have the same hash value, it strongly suggests they are identical. This method is effective even if the files have different names or slightly different metadata. 2. Metadata Comparison: Some duplicate finders compare file names, sizes, and modification dates to identify potential duplicates. This method is faster but less reliable, as files with the same name and size might still have different content. For example, two files named "report.docx" could have different content even with the same size and date. 3. Scanning and Filtering: Duplicate file finders scan the specified folders or drives, analyzing each file. They then use the chosen method (hashing or metadata comparison) to identify duplicates. Many tools offer filtering options, allowing users to narrow down the search by file type, size, or other criteria. 4. User Interface and Management: Once the scan is complete, the software presents a list of duplicate files. Users can review the list and choose which duplicates to remove, move, or rename. Some tools offer automatic selection features, allowing users to quickly remove duplicates based on predefined criteria. In essence, duplicate file finders act as specialized search tools that go beyond basic file name or size comparisons to identify true duplicates based on their content or other defining characteristics.94Views1like2CommentsCan we search by file name on the Dropbox website, and not by content?
I had to remove Dropbox from my PC as I ran out of space. I am now stuck only using it online via a browser. I have yet to find a way to search by file name and not content - and I've found nothing recent online that tells me how to do it. I've even just read the information about Dash and it doesn't seem to do it either. Can this system seriously not handle such a fundamental feature yet?64Views0likes2CommentsNew Paper interface is horrible...
Hi all I just had my paper docs migrated into my Dropbox account. However, I still have access to www.dropbox.com/paper. There is a new Paper UI that initially shows only a couple of files. For some reason, this new UI has a completely different conceptual model or way of working. And many of the basic conventions we had in the previous Paper UI have been removed or replaced by strange alternatives. For instance, a search on this empty space will actually return the results of your migrated Paper docs. They can be filtered, but incredibly, they cannot be sorted. On the left side, there is a sidebar that is almost empty. Apparently, it's up to the user to create a navigation structure there and populate it with documents. I challenge you to find who to do it, but drag and drop doesn't work. I was not offered any type of onboarding or tutorial to transition to this new UI. So, I guess I'll have to discover my way through it little by little. But honestly, I don't know if this new UI will also be removed soon. Can anybody explain what happened with Paper? Thanks120Views3likes5CommentsI'm getting a "Can’t save the changes" error when editing/trimming video files on www.dropbox.com.
For well over a year, I have been able to trim video clips straight from Dropbox, replace the original file and download them when needed. I have noticed however, that over the course of the last week, I have been unable to do this, and receive the following error: Can’t save the changes Something went wrong and we weren’t able to save the changes to this file. I have tried this on different computers, and on my personal and work Dropbox account, and continue to get the same error. If I choose the "create a copy" option, I am able to successfully trim the clip, however only if I do not change the file name, ensuring the existing file name with the word "(edited)" at the end is there. If I attempt to change the file name when saving a copy, I get the above error. Interestingly, I am able to change the name of an existing file (without trimming it) and it works. I'm wondering if anyone knows why this may be, if there is a way of fixing it, or if it's a known issue at all? I've read that converting a video to H.264 often solves the problem, but on this occasion, it hasn't. The work I do requires videos to be trimmed and turned over very quickly. The current workarounds (download, edit, re-upload/create a copy) do work for the time being, they're not a long-term solution. If anyone is able to shed some light on the situation, that would be much appreciated. Thank you!111Views1like3CommentsWhy are people getting a prompt to create a Dropbox account when I share link to a folder?
Scenario, I put a file on my DropBox in a public shared folder. I click on 3 dots and select share, options show it’s set to - anyone with link can view I then share this link ..... example: [Removed as per Community Guidelines] However users don’t get the file or access to it, what they get is an 'window' to create a DropBox Account. It ought to be simpler for users to get to view access, or download … people are reporting they can’t access files due to Dropbox wanting accounts created … which they don’t want to do, too many bogus sites around, and people are reluctant to use their data to open accounts. Can you share without forcing creating a Dropbox account.37Views0likes1CommentI can't save shared content to my Dropbox account, or download/print it. What can I do?
Hi, the first time someone shared files with me I was able to download them into my own Dropbox storage to view at my leisure. Now, they have shared more files but I can't download them. It says the function is disabled for all these files. Is that because they have not enabled it at their end? I just need to know if it's something they need to change please. I also cannot print the documents. Is that something they can enable at their end too? Or do I just download and then print once the documents are in my Dropbox storage?100Views0likes6Comments
