A Year of Conversations: 2025 Community Wrap-Up
Hey everyone! What a year! I’ve loved chatting with you all throughout 2025 - hearing your favourite Dropbox features, clever hacks and the all the ways you use Dropbox to keep life running smoothly. This community is really pure magic. Every week, you jumped in to help each other, share tips and celebrate wins. We had loads of Community Members of the Month, plenty of Mighty Answer badges and so many “aha!” moments. And the stories! From photographers sharing galleries, to coders syncing across Windows and Linux, to the person who who said syncing across threes computers and two homes was “beautiful” - you all really kept the forums lively, helpful and fun! One iPhone user was especially happy with the 2025 Live Photos update, which finally let them migrate their whole collection smoothly. It was made even sweeter knowing the feature came directly from an idea shared right here in the community. And, I adored hearing how Dropbox helps in everyday life, like the member who said: We’ve had our fair share of community adventures this year, but we made it through together and every time I got to say “I am glad to see your issue was resolved”, it honestly made my day. Last year we gave the Community a fresh new look and glow-up, and we really appreciate everyone’s patience with the changes throughout 2025. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, and we’re even more excited for what’s ahead. There are some fab new updates and improvements coming in 2026… so stay tuned! A huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who got involved in conversations this year. Those who asked questions, those who answered them, and those who felt comfortable sharing ideas, frustrations, clever workarounds, and even honest feelings about Dropbox. And of course, a special shout-out to our amazing Super Users …you’re absolute stars and this community wouldn’t be the same without you. So that’s it from us for 2025! How to back up my Dropbox folder on an external drive?
Running Windows 11 Pro. I recently re-installed Dropbox to retrieve files still stored on the cloud. The default install put the folder location "C:\Users\michaelmunson\Dropbox" I attempted to change the folder location by going to Preferences > Sync > Dropbox folder location. I changed the location to the external drive where I wanted it to be. After a LONG time, there was a quick pop up error message that said that not all files could be transferred. (I dont know which ones and can't find a log with details.) When I open file explorer, I am still seeing dropbox in the original location (c:\users\) AND the new location (d:\dropbox\). When I check back in preferences under sync, the dropbox folder location is still showing the original (C:\users\). When I tried to do the process again to move it to the D drive, a pop up box noted that there was already a desktop.ini file on the D drive and it could not move the files. Any idea of how I can get dropbox to show up ONLY on the external drive? I ONLY want to be able to download ALL of the content to the external drive. I dont' need it to sync and don't plan on having this as a dynamic file location with new or changing files. This is simply a back up of prior files. Thanks for any help. michael
How can I get the Mac system folder 'Documents' into the Dropbox folder
Hi How can I get my original Mac system folder "Documents" into my Dropbox? I only want ONE original "Documents" folder, i.e. the one in Dropbox. Same for "Desktop" I use an iMac, PowerBook and iPhone Earlier I had a folders in my Dropbox (Icon: an apple) with a name something like this: My iMac => Desktop My iMac => Documents My PowerBook => Desktop My PowerBook => Documents How do I get them back? /Peter Device iMac 27 2019, PowerBook M2 Max, iPhone 16Pro Operating System/Browser (if using the web) iMax macOS10.14.6 (cannot upgrade due to apps), otherwise all updated Syncing Status Up to date
