694 TopicsA Year of Conversations: 2025 Community Wrap-Up
Hey everyone! What a year! I’ve loved chatting with you all throughout 2025 - hearing your favourite Dropbox features, clever hacks and the all the ways you use Dropbox to keep life running smoothly. This community is really pure magic. Every week, you jumped in to help each other, share tips and celebrate wins. We had loads of Community Members of the Month, plenty of Mighty Answer badges and so many “aha!” moments. And the stories! From photographers sharing galleries, to coders syncing across Windows and Linux, to the person who who said syncing across threes computers and two homes was “beautiful” - you all really kept the forums lively, helpful and fun! One iPhone user was especially happy with the 2025 Live Photos update, which finally let them migrate their whole collection smoothly. It was made even sweeter knowing the feature came directly from an idea shared right here in the community. And, I adored hearing how Dropbox helps in everyday life, like the member who said: We’ve had our fair share of community adventures this year, but we made it through together and every time I got to say “I am glad to see your issue was resolved”, it honestly made my day. Last year we gave the Community a fresh new look and glow-up, and we really appreciate everyone’s patience with the changes throughout 2025. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, and we’re even more excited for what’s ahead. There are some fab new updates and improvements coming in 2026… so stay tuned! A huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who got involved in conversations this year. Those who asked questions, those who answered them, and those who felt comfortable sharing ideas, frustrations, clever workarounds, and even honest feelings about Dropbox. And of course, a special shout-out to our amazing Super Users …you’re absolute stars and this community wouldn’t be the same without you. So that’s it from us for 2025! Have a safe and happy time over the holiday period, and I’ll see you all in 20267Views1like0CommentsHow to back up my Dropbox folder on an external drive?
Running Windows 11 Pro. I recently re-installed Dropbox to retrieve files still stored on the cloud. The default install put the folder location "C:\Users\michaelmunson\Dropbox" I attempted to change the folder location by going to Preferences > Sync > Dropbox folder location. I changed the location to the external drive where I wanted it to be. After a LONG time, there was a quick pop up error message that said that not all files could be transferred. (I dont know which ones and can't find a log with details.) When I open file explorer, I am still seeing dropbox in the original location (c:\users\) AND the new location (d:\dropbox\). When I check back in preferences under sync, the dropbox folder location is still showing the original (C:\users\). When I tried to do the process again to move it to the D drive, a pop up box noted that there was already a desktop.ini file on the D drive and it could not move the files. Any idea of how I can get dropbox to show up ONLY on the external drive? I ONLY want to be able to download ALL of the content to the external drive. I dont' need it to sync and don't plan on having this as a dynamic file location with new or changing files. This is simply a back up of prior files. Thanks for any help. michael33Views0likes2CommentsCan I archive files in my Dropbox account?
Hi I am trying to figure out how to archive Dropbox files and I am reading conflicting information. Some posts say you can archive files in dropbox and other posts say not. Anyone know the answer? I've read the Dropbox help and that isn't massively clear tbh 😞 ThanksSolved6.7KViews1like4CommentsI use a Windows device, and my Dropbox files take 7-10 seconds to open in my File Explorer.
recently i have had issues with dropbox (db) opening files extemely slow. i figured it was my computer so i bought/installed a new 1tb solid state drive, reformatted, re-installed everything.. and it still opened slow, like 7-10 seconds per file (yes, can drive a man nuts). i decided to do a little troubleshooting and copied a file to my desktop to see if it still opened slow and BOOM.. flew open. so it looks like its dropbox that is having the issue. my dropbox folder is located on my c:. we live in the woods and have satellite for internet (not sure if that matters). windows 10, and brand new dell precision work station. windows defender is disabled (read that was an issue also). the files i mostly use are "autocad" files (.dwg) thanks for the help!Solved15KViews1like27CommentsLinking Excel files in Dropbox without changing their path.
We just switched to Dropbox for Business. We have several Excel files with formulas that link to other Excel files all saved in a shared folder. With our local server the links would work for every user the same. Now with using Dropbox, the link will work for one user and not for another user. If the 2nd user changes the file path to make the link work for them, then it will no longer work for the first user. How do we make it so all users in the shared file can open the Excel file and have the links update without having to change the file path for each user?Solved14KViews2likes3CommentsHow can I stream a video to my website from Dropbox online?
Hi Guys, So I will try and explain best I can. This is my website https://www.progressivedreamsmusic.com/ and this is a page on my website where I stream videos https://www.progressivedreamsmusic.com/a-progressive-journey-50/ The video that plays on the above page is hosted on my desktop in my dropbox pubic folder. I use a widget within wordpress (on my site) called FV Flowplayer Video Player that allows me to embed videos like this. What I do is copy the link of the video I want to stream and I paste it in FV Player, I change the end of the link from '?dl=0' to '?raw=1', I am not exactly sure why but without this the video won't play. Anyway, without that out of the way you can see what I am doing, but because over time this will take up lots of space on my desktop I want to know how I can stream a video from my online dropbox account like this? I want to store these very large video files in dropox cloud, maybe a public folder on my online account? Basically I want to not eat up my computers hhd space and instead do this via online instead Can anyne help me ?Solved25KViews1like2CommentsAccidentally hid a file using the device's Properties and now I can't locate it.
