I am synced to open Dropbox documents in the online-only mode on my Surface Pro since it doesnt have a ton of hard drive memory. That has worked well for several years. Recently, my Surface Pro has been unable to open Word documents stored stored in Dropbox. Instead, I get the "Unspecified Error" message. I can open pdf files stored in Dropbox without a problem. What changed? How do I resolve this? I have updated my Windows and Dropbox apps. Thanks.Solved12KViews2likes7CommentsServer or network failed or the format is not supported error when viewing a video
I have been trying to view a video that was uploaded here but I keep getting the error message "The media could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported." I then tried to download the video (using chrome) and it failed, saying that there was a server problem. I have tried changing my DNS settings, refreshing the page, checking to see if my browser is up to date, changed browsers, downloaded Quicktime player and VLC to try and view the video (it was captured on an iphone and is apparently an mp4 file), and even tried to disable adblock and got nothing. I'm tired of this and I just want to watch the video... What else can I do? Here is a link to the video https://www.dropbox.com/s/nru5e6j1ar2i5a9/VID_20220917_160014.mp4?dl=0Solved4.9KViews0likes6CommentsPreviewing TIFF only shows first page
Hello When I click on a .tiff file to preview, it only shows the first page for that preview. For other files like PDF, it shows all pages. From Dropbox's documentation, tiff previews should be supported up to 200MB files. Why am I not seeing the preview of all pages for tiff documents?Solved4.9KViews0likes13Comments"That didn't work for some reason" error when trying to open a shared link.
I was sent ym first dropbox video link in my email. When I click on it it goes to Dropbox and says..." That didn't work for some reason. If it's a fluke refresh the page..." Upon refreshing all it does is repeat this error message. Any smart peeps out there that know what's happening? Thanks for any help you can provide!24KViews0likes42CommentsDoes Dropbox compress files that user's upload?
Hello Dropbox, It's time for transparency on the topic of file compression. It is ridiculous that this question has been asked by so many users, dating back a decade, and still, I am unable to locate an official response or published document containing this sensible information. Does Dropbox compress files that user's upload? I'd like to hear it from a Dropbox representative, and: If yes; which file types are compressed? I want (require) a list of file extensions, please. Not a vague response lacking credibility besides "I work at Dropbox" or "any lossy audio file". What method of compression is used; can you at least tell me if its lossless? (again, documentation please.) Can the compression be circumvented with a workaround? Is there some container file type like .rar archives that Dropbox will leave alone? For example, what if I upload .iso or .vhd images? Would that be as easy as just changing the file extension or would I actually need to build an image because Dropbox uses heuristics to examine the raw data of the file in determining what to compress? What if I created a lossless archive that is password protected? What if I used my own file encryption software before uploading? If no, please provide a link to Dropbox official documentation stating this. I'm sorry that I don't trust you (hey, I'm honest). It's shady that Dropbox hasn't made this information easily accessible to their paid subscribers. I understand why it would be in Dropbox's best interest to compress user's files and in the end it would come down to profit and slight consideration for the user experience transferring files. I see it as, I pay (and have for ~years~) for a specific amount of storage space, therefore I should be able to choose how much of that quota my data occupies. Thank you, while irritated I do respectfully appreciate your time. WaltSolved8.1KViews1like6CommentsWord document's format created on the web, doesn't seem the same when viewing using the desktop app.
I am having issues with formatting NOT remaining the same from when I create a Word document locally (and saved on Dropbox app) to once it is being edited in Word for the Web. I have noticed that specific "Style" formatting in Word for Web doesn't match the formatting when viewing the document in Word itself. Is there a way to update the styles formatting in the Word for Web to match the styles formatting in Word desktop? E.g. When in my local Word app, I use Styles set to Palatino Linotype for HEADING 1, 2, 3. All of my body text is also Palatino Linotype (Normal). My Table of Content also is showing correctly in Palatino Linotype. When I open the same document in Word for Web all of my headings (1,2, and 3) get converted to Calibri. My TOC also changes to Calibri as does my body text for bulleted lists. This is massively problematic when I or anyone else goes to edit the document in Word for Web as it looks like the formatting is wrong. However, if anyone was to open it on their desktop it would look as it should. How do I get the Word for Web formatting to match what I see and do on desktop? Note: I use Chrome on a Mac. When I open Word for Web I see the option to use Palatino Linotype but even if I revise the formatting in Word for Web with Palatino L. it will convert back to Calibri at some point due to other edits made. Basically, the option to use Palatino L. is there but it doesn't want to stay that way.Solved2.3KViews0likes1Comment"Couldn't load file. There was an error loading the file" when viewing files on iPhone.
Recently I am getting the message "Couldn't load file. There was an error loading the file" on my iphone. I had the files resent to me, and I was able to open them at one time last night, but half an hour later, got this error message on 5 out of 6 files. (Please keep your responses simple. I am electronically-challenged.) 😊Solved5.6KViews0likes3CommentsAfter downloading a video it's then choppy and slow, whether I use my mobile or laptop.
After downloading the video is choppy and laggy. I tried it on my android phone, my laptop (browser: chrome , firefox) , and via the Laptop app. I tried viewing the clip in my phone , with vlc and the standard windows 10 media player. Since its a mov file i tried converting it to mp4 first which didnt work as well. if i open the dropbox link where the clips are uploaded they are not choppy. I dont know what to try anymore. Any ideas what is going on?Solved8.3KViews0likes17Comments"File cannot be accessed by the system" error message on my Windows device.
I have a paid account from Dropbox Plus. When I attempt to access some files in Dropbox, I get the File Cannot be Accessed by the System error. This happens with all of my jpg and other photo files. I have been able to access all of these files in the past. It's only since I moved to Windows 11 that this has started. Any help is appreciatedSolved8.5KViews0likes8CommentsI need to save my Android photos to Dropbox directly as .jpg not .jpeg.
Hi all, As of a few days ago I finally figured out a great solution to my workflow by using an Android phone to take my pictures directly into Dropbox as Android creates .jpg file extensions which is the only extension a few of my other online systems accept. After checking the process again yesterday, I noticed that right clicking on the image to get the direct link now produces a .jpeg extension in the URL and is now unusable. This literally happened within a week of me figuring out the perfect flow. Now, I am back to square one sadly. I am hoping someone out there knows the answer. Many thanks!Solved4.3KViews0likes12Comments
