23 TopicsHow do I re-link the File Provider Dropbox folder?
Hi, I upgraded to the new file provider dropbox a few months ago. In the last few weeks, dropbox didn't seem to be syncing, even after I clicked move to online only and my hard-drive suddenly filled up leading to mac warning signs. So I logged out then back in. When I logged back in, I found that dropbox had "unlinked" my file provider folder. It had forgotten that I had done the file provider update and made a new blank old-style dropbox folder, which it is trying to start resyncing everything. The trouble is, I don't have enough hard-drive space to enable it to fully resync, and I'm worried that there might be data in the file-provider folder that never actually synced to dropbox online, so I can't delete anything. And it won't let me re-update to file provider until everything is synced. Which it can't because of the lack of harddrive space. Finally, the nature of my work means that I have more than 500,000 files and so I had all my settings setup to avoid that trap, but dropbox also seems to have forgotten that. And I can't edit them until it's synced. Given that 10 minutes ago, everything seemed to be working fine (or maybe not given the potential lack of syncing), I'm pretty frustrated. How can I simply re-link my file provider folder so that I don't lose anything or have to resync 500Gb? Or any other suggestions to get me out of this catch 22? Any advice would be very welcome. Application Affected Dropbox Device HP Probook 650 Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 10 Pro Dropbox App Version (if using the app) none at this moment, not able to install My dropbox recently popped up a message that I had to update the app. It also stopped syncing. So I downloaded the installer for the update. When I launced it, it said "On your marks", next the window disappears. Nothing seems to happen with the update and dropbox still won't sync. In services I noticed there are two dropbox updater services. I tried to start them manually but both failed with an unknown error. Next I completely removed the Dropbox application, removed all registry entries related to dropbox and all dropbox folders on my system (except the data folder). Downloaded the installer. It launches, downloads the program and next displays a window saying "installing dropbox" with a progress bar. But the installation never finishes and hangs indefinately (tried to leave it at least for an hour). When I try to close the installer window, it ask me to confirm I want to cancel the installation. When I confirm cancellation finishes after a few minutes and the window closes . However all dropbox processes remain active in the task manager: When I try to start the installer again, it says there is already an installation running. When I kill all dropbox processes in the task manager, I can relaunch the installer but with the same result, it hangs forever without any error message. Anything else I can try, or should I start looking for another storage solution?Solved484Views0likes22CommentsDropbox Mac OS fails to Index and/or synchronize and Update to new folder structure
Dear Dropbox Support and Community, As a long-standing Dropbox customer with a 3TB Dropbox Pro subscription, I am very surprised. When I switched my entire work environment to Mac M1/M2 chipsets (over a year ago), I simply couldn't use Dropbox anymore because syncing kept taking days, etc. In the meantime, I used competitors' products (Google, PCloud) and left my dearly paid-for DropBox subscription unused in the corner. Due to a new customer, the use/collaboration with Dropbox is once again becoming topical and necessary. And what can I say, obviously it is not possible to create a functioning software product in a year despite my freshly debited subscription fees of almost $200. Although I did a complete clean install on my Mac M1 Studio and the Macbook Pro M2, following the instructions on the internet, and selected only very small folders with 4-6 files and under 1 GB for the first synchronization, I (like many others in this forum) get stuck at an infinite indexation. I have installed version v208.4.5824 on both devices. I not only did a clean install but also removed all devices from the Dropbox security settings beforehand. Both devices have more than enough hard disk space. Both the “online only” and “available offline” synchronization options were tried. Different folders were selected on both devices to avoid a possible conflict here as well. Both devices synchronize into the “old” folder under “Users/xxx/Dropbox”, because the update for the Dropbox folder according to the new Mac OS 14.6.1 fails miserably and every time it tells me that the update for macOS with file providers cannot yet be carried out. I can only wonder how DropBox can continue to offer such a mess and is not ashamed when they debit my subscription fees annually. I hope for help from the community, as even the support e-mails in March 2023 were fruitless and just infuriated me. Shame on you, Dropbox.505Views0likes3CommentsI got an alert that Dropbox wants to modify something in my MacOS
When logging into my Mac, I got an alert that an attempt by "Dropbox, Inc" to modify something in my system, was blocked, and that I should open the "Security&Privacy" in my System Preferences to enable it. Indeed, I found there a message 'System software from developer 'Dropbox, Inc.' was blocked from loading. I can't find any hint that this is really coming from Dropbox, or what modification would actually be performed, if I would allow this, and therefore keep it blocked. How can I find out, whether this was not a fishing attempt, but legally came from Dropbox? I also would like to find out, what this changes would actually do.Solved2.2KViews0likes11CommentsI can't opt out of the Dropbox For Windows Update
I keep getting a notification there is "Dropbox for Windows Update" which I do not want to install (it changes the way items are displayed in the dropbox folder). I found the below article to turn off this specific notification. I followed the steps under but when I get to step 5 to open advanced settings then try to comlete step 6 "opt out for dropbox for windows updates" that option does not appear. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Solved742Views0likes2CommentsDefective Dropbox Win10 update and installation file
Your most recent Win 10 update and the Win 10 installation file offered on your website are both defective, though my account files on your website and via my iPhone still work just fine. You automatically updated an operative Dropbox on my Windows 10 (64 bit) PC three days ago, rendering it inoperative. No previously operative links to it, as well as directly clicking on the recently update dropbox.exe file now work. All now simply time out with no error message. So I downloaded your install file from your web site and ran it. It ran and exited without running Dropbox (as most updates typically do). No improvement. Dropbox will still not run on this machine, even after rebooting. So I downloaded and ran your installation file on another Windows 10 (64 bit) machine which had no previously installed Dropbox as a test. Same result. It won't run on that machine either. Both machines are running the latest versions of Windows 10 64 bit. So what's the problem, and how do we fix it?648Views0likes1CommentCan't update to File Provider on Mac OS: some file types not supported.
I'm seeing in the Preferences -> Sync that I cannot use Dropbox for macOS on FIle Provider on one of my computers. I'm trying to figure out why it works on some computers and not others. The message says: Following the "Learn more" link leads me to an article that points out that Photos libraries, Final Cut projects and Logic Pro projects can't be synced with File Provider. But, I don't think I have any of those. The closest I come is a directory named "Photos" but it is not a Photos Library. Also, that directory appears on other computers with very similar specs (OS, architecture) to the machine in question. But, those computers use File Provider just fine. Any hints? How can I determine which files it is complaining about?1.8KViews0likes14CommentsWhat is the best way to upgrade to Mac Sonoma and Dropbox File Provider?
So been avoiding making any changes for over a year now since things have been working relatively well with the Old Dropbox on two Macs running OS Ventura 13.5, even with the issues around online-only files. But really want to get my Macs on the current version (Sonoma 14.5), which I think means I have to upgrade to Dropbox File Provider. Having read lots of horror stories, wondering is there's a simple tutorial for doing this with the least amount of headaches. Or any tips anyone who has done it can offer. Like should I upgrade the OS first, or upgrade to FP on the current OS first? I am on a Dropbox Plus plan if that matters. Thanks.2.7KViews0likes20Comments
