Cut the Clutter: Ignore Files Feature is now live
Update: This feature is now live and available to all individual plan customers! Thank you to all our testers, and share your feedback with the team, we're still eager to hear from you! For years you’ve asked for a simple way to exclude files and folders from sync without using selective sync feature. We’re testing a new way to give you more control over what Dropbox syncs and what it doesn’t. If you’ve ever wanted to keep certain files or folders on your device without syncing them to dropbox.com, this feature is for you. 🤔 What is it? You might have already spoken to some of the team at Dropbox who build Dropbox here on the Community forums, and we are so happy to be able to update you when they have some updates to share! The team have been busy and here are some updates on end-to-end encryption (which we know you’ve been looking forward to), Replay, integrations, Dash and more. Keep reading and don’t forget to let us know what you think! Advanced data protection features add extra layers of security to confidential content with seamless end-to-end encryption and advanced key management If you’ve been using the Dropbox Community for any length of time, you might have seen requests for end-to-end encryption and we have excellent news! It is here! New advanced data protection features from Dropbox provide businesses with sole control over how their data is secured. End-to-end encryption and advanced key management make it easy to protect sensitive and confidential files in Dropbox team folders. This means that no one—including Dropbox—can gain access to their files. Activating end-to-end encryption is as simple as creating a shared team folder and selecting the new encrypted folder option, requiring no technical expertise from the admin or account owner. Files are encrypted when added to the folder and decrypted when a team member is added to the encrypted folder. Only users who have been invited to an encrypted folder can access the files stored within it. Team members quickly get access by invitation to the shared team folder, similar to sharing a regular Dropbox folder. Files are end-to-end encrypted on the team member’s device before they are securely synced with Dropbox servers. No one—including Dropbox—can decrypt the file or access your private key. With advanced key management, teams can set up a unique encryption key as an added layer of security to ensure only members of their organization can access Dropbox files and protect against threats. Keys are automatically rotated every 12 months, and admins can rotate or revoke the key as needed. Dropbox Trust Center also launched today to streamline and accelerate risk assessments of Dropbox products with self-serve, anytime access to our security, reliability, privacy, and compliance information. Prospective and existing customers can streamline internal reviews, audits and risk assessment processes to get value from Dropbox products faster. We know you’ve been asking, so if you want to dive deeper into the security benefits of Dropbox, you can check out https://www.dropbox.com/security. Fast-track video, image, and audio reviews with new features in Dropbox Replay You already know we are Replay’s biggest fans, so if you want to learn more about Replay, we’ve got you too - Replay enables teams to easily share and collaborate on projects from anywhere, including with real-time live reviews and transcriptions—all in one place. With today’s announcement, new functionality helps teams accelerate the feedback process and finish projects faster: Dynamic watermarking: Keep proprietary content protected and prevent unauthorized use by placing watermarks on work shared with collaborators. Hi everyone! We want to share a heads-up about an update rolling out for Dropbox users on older versions of Windows and macOS. The new simplified version of the Dropbox desktop app lets us continue the extended support of older operating systems while ensuring your experience stays efficient, reliable and hassle-free 🤗. Here’s What’s Changing If you’re using Dropbox on: Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 macOS 10.13 (High Sierra), 10.14 (Mojave) or 10.15 (Catalina) You’ll soon see a message letting you know that Dropbox is updating how the desktop app works on these systems. To keep using all desktop app features, you’ll need to upgrade to a more recent operating system (Windows 10 or newer, or macOS Big Sur or newer). But don’t worry - your files will continue to sync without interruption, no matter what 📁. What If I Can’t Update Right Now? If updating your operating system isn’t possible, Dropbox will automatically switch you to a streamlined version of the desktop experience. It still handles the basics - like reliable file syncing - just without some of desktop app features. Of course, you can also continue accessing all your content through dropbox.com or the mobile app. For more details, including OS requirements and upgrade tops check out this article here. Thanks for your understanding as we roll out this update. These changes help us keep Dropbox secure and reliable while ensuring your files stay in sync. Got any additional questions? Drop them below, we’re always happy to help 💙.Theresa2 days agoCommunity Manager34Views0likes1CommentWe’re Still Here to Help (Even Over the Holidays!)

I don’t know about you, but I’m absolutely delighted to finally see spring taking it’s hold. If you’re anything like us Irish, this time of year marks a turning point, as the dark winter months are replaced by longer, brighter and warmer days. Flowers start to blossom, bees are buzzing, the birds are singing, and it nearly seems like the whole country’s mood lifts. It’s just a blooming great time of year! We’ve also got a lot to be happy about with Dropbox, too. So, here’s what’s new this spring. Publishing content to social media We’re currently in the process of rolling out a feature that will allow you to publish content straight to social media from your Dropbox account. If you’ve been using Dropbox for your social media content, you’ll know that downloading - and re-uploading - videos and images can take up quite a bit of time so you’ll be delighted to hear that you will no longer need to do this as you can now publish posts on Facebook and Instagram directly from your Dropbox account. We’re also currently working on a function that will allow you to schedule posts directly from your Dropbox account and the ability to publish content to YouTube. You’ll need an Instagram for Business account and a linked Facebook account to be able to use these features. As this is currently being rolled out, this feature is not yet available to everyone. You’ll know if you can do it if you can see the “Publish” button. If you can’t see it, have a look at this thread to find out how to opt-in. Unlimited passwords Having somewhere to track and manage passwords these days is an integral part of life, otherwise you’re left trying to remember an ever growing and ever changing list of random words, not to mention the really hard bit of trying to remember which random word fits for which random account. With Dropbox Passwords, you don’t need to worry about any of that, it will keep all your passwords, logins and card details up to date and fully synced across three devices. It will even autofill your passwords so they are as safe and securer as possible, but that’s not even the best thing about Dropbox Passwords. So, what is the best thing about Dropbox Passwords? Well, that would be the fact that it is completely free and available to all Dropbox Basic account holders. So to boost your password security game and put your mind at ease, get started with Passwords now! Mobile search improvements If you’ve been using the Dropbox mobile app, you’ve probably noticed some improvements to our search functionality recently. If you haven’t, and you’re interested in learning more, here’s a very quick run down of what’s new. To start with, we’ve made the thumbnails that appear in your search results bigger, which makes it easier to identify the things that you’re looking for and means you don’t need to strain your eyes looking at those tiny tiles anymore. We’ve also added a number of new parameters and filters to help you find what you’re looking for quicker. Your search results will now include ‘Modified Dates’ and ‘File Sizes’. We’ve introduced ‘Snippets’ for keyword matches within files and there’s also the ability to filter your search based on ‘File Type’ or ‘Modified Date’ and you can now view search results in order of newest to oldest. You can find out more or leave some feedback on these changes on this thread. And finally We’d also like to give an honorary mention to one other thing that isn’t really Dropbox related but will have a huge impact on our lives over the coming weeks and months. That is, the sun. For those of you who don’t know it, it’s the huge golden ball burning in the sky. We haven’t seen much of it around these parts recently and we’re looking forward to seeing a lot more of it in the near future. We hope you’ll also get to enjoy it and soak up some lovely vitamin-D! Just don’t forget your sunscreen. If there’s something else that you’re happy about now that spring is in the air, or just in general, we’d love to hear from you. So please let us know what you’re grateful for by leaving us a comment below!Graham6 months agoCommunity Manager6.6KViews2likes4Comments
