We're making changes - the Community is now read-only until April 8th
Hey everyone It’s happening! You might have seen our update about the upcoming Community changes, and we’re really excited to get the new experience up and running. As part of that, the Community is now officially in read-only mode. You can still browse discussions, but posting and interactions are temporarily paused while we make the move. If you need support while we’re working on the Community, you can still get help over at Dropbox Support, and you can check out the Dropbox Help Center, and even more over at Dropbox Learn. Over the next week, we’ll be working behind the scenes to make sure all discussions are where they should be, test things thoroughly, and get the new experience ready for you. We will be back to update you when we’re live next week. We know this is a bit of a change, and we really appreciate you sticking with us. We’re so excited for what’s coming next and can’t wait to welcome you into the new Community very soon. Thanks so much for your patience and support - we’re nearly there! Amy, on behalf of the Dropbox Community teamCut the Clutter: Ignore Files Feature is now live
Update: This feature is now live and available to all individual plan customers! Thank you to all our testers, and share your feedback with the team, we're still eager to hear from you! For years you’ve asked for a simple way to exclude files and folders from sync without using selective sync feature. We’re testing a new way to give you more control over what Dropbox syncs and what it doesn’t. If you’ve ever wanted to keep certain files or folders on your device without syncing them to dropbox.com, this feature is for you. 🤔 What is it? Ignore Files lets you list exclusion rules in a special text file called rules.dropboxignore placed in your Dropbox root folder. Any file or folder that matches a rule will stay on your computer but will not sync to dropbox.com or count against your storage 👀 Who we’re looking for Desktop Dropbox users on Windows, macOS, or Linux People who regularly deal with temporary or bulky content, e.g. Software Engineers Video / audio / 3D creators Anyone who hates seeing clutter in their cloud storage Someone who is comfortable trying a closed beta feature and sharing honest feedback 🗓️ How the closed beta works Here’s what to expect if you join the beta for Ignore Files: Register - Fill out the form here → [Sign-up link] Confirm: Eligible participants will receive an email to confirm their participation, along with the timeline details. Get Set Up - Make sure you have Dropbox app installed on your computer We’ll Enable It - We’ll activate Ignore Files feature for you. Try It Out - Use Dropbox as usual for 1 week, ignoring files and folders as needed. Share Your Thoughts - At the end of the week, we’ll send a quick survey. You can also opt into a 30-minute feedback chat (optional, limited spots available!) ✍️ Want in? Fill out the quick screener here by date → [Sign-up link] Keep an eye on your inbox - we’ll be in touch if you’re selected Thanks so much for helping us improve Dropbox. We’re excited to hear what you think! Got questions? Just drop them in the thread below. 💬5KViews13likes53CommentsWe're making some changes to the Dropbox Community
Hi everyone, Over the past few years, you’ve shared feedback, ideas, and questions that help shape how this community supports you. We’ve been listening closely - and as a result, we’ll soon be moving the Dropbox Community to a new platform designed to deliver a better, more seamless experience. We’re just a few days away from launching an updated Dropbox Community experience, and we wanted to help you feel ready for what’s coming. To facilitate this move, the Dropbox Community Forum will be available as read-only from Monday 30th March until Wednesday, April 8th. This means that you will not be able to start new discussions, reply to threads, like posts, accept solutions or add or vote for ideas for one week. You will still be able to read discussions and find solutions during this time. Here’s what to know ahead of the move: This update is all about improving usability, performance, and helping you to get the answers you need. Hey everyone! We’ve got some exciting news - Dropbox now supports way more characters in filenames and folders! Emojis are now supported across all surfaces, and it’s available to everyone! That means support for emojis like 🚀, 🎵, 🏴☠️, plus rare scripts like 𩸽, اللهِ, and even mathematical symbols like 𝛑 or 𝔸. This long-requested update fixes the issue of files not syncing properly due to unsupported characters, so everything now works just as expected. Whether you’re jazzing up a folder name with a little ✨ flair ✨or using your native language to stay in flow, we hope this update brings a little extra delight to your day and the way you work. Give it a go and let us know what you think! And of course, thank you to Link1328 for the idea and everyone who contributed to the thread! Let us know what you think, share your feedback or any other requests for characters to support below 👇 Happy organizing!Amy2 months agoCommunity Manager1.8KViews10likes15CommentsAge Requirements for Using Dropbox
Dropbox has age requirements in place to comply with legal regulations and help create a safe experience for everyone. These requirements may vary by location and in some cases may involve parental approval. Below is an overview of the minimum age to use Dropbox, along with helpful information about account access and the steps available if age requirements apply. Minimum Age to Use Dropbox The minimum age to create and use a Dropbox account depends on where you live: If you’re in the United States: You must be 13 or older. If you’re outside the United States: You must be 16 or older. Once you reach the required age in your location, you can create a new Dropbox account. What happens if I don’t meet the age requirement? If you’re under the minimum age required to use Dropbox, your account may be scheduled for deletion. Dropbox provides advance notice and time to take action: You’ll receive a notification 48 hours before deletion During this grace period you will be prompted to download all your content. You can download your files from dropbox.com or using the Dropbox Desktop app. If you can’t download your data before the deletion date, contact Dropbox support at dropbox.com/get_help. After 48 hours: You’ll be logged out of all Dropbox apps. You won't be able to log back in. Your account will be deleted in accordance with our retention policy. Why your access to the Dropbox mobile app may be disabled Dropbox relies on age and parental-approval information provided by the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. This information helps us follow our Terms of Service and comply with laws designed to protect minors. Your access to the Dropbox mobile app may be disabled for the following reasons: You’re under the minimum age required to use Dropbox: If you’re under 13 years old in the United States, or under the applicable age limit in your region, you’ll lose access to the Dropbox mobile app. You’ll be notified that your account will be deleted and you’ll have a limited amount of time to download your content from dropbox.com or from the Dropbox desktop app before permanent deletion. You’re between 13–17 years old and need parental approval: If you’re between ages 13–17, you may need approval from a parent or guardian to continue using the Dropbox mobile app. If you don’t have parental approval, your access to the Dropbox mobile app will be disabled temporarily. You’ll be notified that parental approval is required, and once it’s granted, your access will be restored. Your parental approval request was denied: If your parent or guardian denies approval, your access to the Dropbox mobile app will be disabled. By understanding Dropbox’s age requirements, you can ensure a smooth and uninterrupted experience. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, visit the our Help Center article on age requirements here.Theresa2 months agoCommunity Manager67Views1like0CommentsUpdates to How Dropbox Works on Older Operating Systems 💻
Hi everyone! We want to share a heads-up about an update rolling out for Dropbox users on older versions of Windows and macOS. The new simplified version of the Dropbox desktop app lets us continue the extended support of older operating systems while ensuring your experience stays efficient, reliable and hassle-free 🤗. Here’s What’s Changing If you’re using Dropbox on: Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 macOS 10.13 (High Sierra), 10.14 (Mojave) or 10.15 (Catalina) You’ll soon see a message letting you know that Dropbox is updating how the desktop app works on these systems. To keep using all desktop app features, you’ll need to upgrade to a more recent operating system (Windows 10 or newer, or macOS Big Sur or newer). But don’t worry - your files will continue to sync without interruption, no matter what 📁. What If I Can’t Update Right Now? If updating your operating system isn’t possible, Dropbox will automatically switch you to a streamlined version of the desktop experience. It still handles the basics - like reliable file syncing - just without some of desktop app features. Of course, you can also continue accessing all your content through dropbox.com or the mobile app. For more details, including OS requirements and upgrade tops check out this article here. Thanks for your understanding as we roll out this update. These changes help us keep Dropbox secure and reliable while ensuring your files stay in sync. Got any additional questions? Drop them below, we’re always happy to help 💙.Theresa3 months agoCommunity Manager253Views0likes3CommentsWe’re Still Here to Help (Even Over the Holidays!)

You might have already spoken to some of the team at Dropbox who build Dropbox here on the Community forums, and we are so happy to be able to update you when they have some updates to share! The team have been busy and here are some updates on end-to-end encryption (which we know you’ve been looking forward to), Replay, integrations, Dash and more. Keep reading and don’t forget to let us know what you think! Advanced data protection features add extra layers of security to confidential content with seamless end-to-end encryption and advanced key management If you’ve been using the Dropbox Community for any length of time, you might have seen requests for end-to-end encryption and we have excellent news! It is here! New advanced data protection features from Dropbox provide businesses with sole control over how their data is secured. End-to-end encryption and advanced key management make it easy to protect sensitive and confidential files in Dropbox team folders. This means that no one—including Dropbox—can gain access to their files. Activating end-to-end encryption is as simple as creating a shared team folder and selecting the new encrypted folder option, requiring no technical expertise from the admin or account owner. Files are encrypted when added to the folder and decrypted when a team member is added to the encrypted folder. Only users who have been invited to an encrypted folder can access the files stored within it. Team members quickly get access by invitation to the shared team folder, similar to sharing a regular Dropbox folder. Files are end-to-end encrypted on the team member’s device before they are securely synced with Dropbox servers. No one—including Dropbox—can decrypt the file or access your private key. With advanced key management, teams can set up a unique encryption key as an added layer of security to ensure only members of their organization can access Dropbox files and protect against threats. Keys are automatically rotated every 12 months, and admins can rotate or revoke the key as needed. Dropbox Trust Center also launched today to streamline and accelerate risk assessments of Dropbox products with self-serve, anytime access to our security, reliability, privacy, and compliance information. Prospective and existing customers can streamline internal reviews, audits and risk assessment processes to get value from Dropbox products faster. We know you’ve been asking, so if you want to dive deeper into the security benefits of Dropbox, you can check out https://www.dropbox.com/security. Fast-track video, image, and audio reviews with new features in Dropbox Replay You already know we are Replay’s biggest fans, so if you want to learn more about Replay, we’ve got you too - Replay enables teams to easily share and collaborate on projects from anywhere, including with real-time live reviews and transcriptions—all in one place. With today’s announcement, new functionality helps teams accelerate the feedback process and finish projects faster: Dynamic watermarking: Keep proprietary content protected and prevent unauthorized use by placing watermarks on work shared with collaborators. Watermarks include recipient email, IP address, date, and time of when the file is opened. Custom branding: Configure custom images, banners, logos, and colors within Replay project workspaces.
