"can't be opened because the original item can't be found" problem

Ugh. I don't know what happened. Drop box was asking me something and I must have clicked agreed to something and now all my files and folders "can't be opened because the original item can't be found" and I'm freaking out. I followed an early thread about disabling the backups (https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Storage-Space/Desktop-can-t-be-opened-because-the-original-item-can-t-be-found/td-p/530856) but I didn't see any option for "Adjust settings" and "disable backup" I get an option to start a back up (if I remember correctly)

I pray there is a solution to this....

Help me obi wan! You're my only hope.

Hey scy, not a problem! Let me see if I can answer your questions:

    1) If after the move, the shortcuts don't seem to work, you might need to update them indeed.

    2) Since the Dropbox folder on your computer is named "Dropbox (old)" that means it's no longer syncing. So any changes you make to this folder, won't sync to the account that contains these files online.

    3) If by adding the files to the working Dropbox folder, the account goes over quota, it will just stop syncing.

    4) Dropbox is not duplicating your files, but if you're using the Dropbox application, any files you have in your account online, will sync locally as well, so they might take up your hard drive space.

    5) If you have a different account linked to the computer now, it probably makes sense. Do you see a backup folder in the old Dropbox folder?
