My files in one folder became .msg files, why?

How do I make msg files readable ?

Context: All of my files in one folder suddenly became unreadable .msg files
and I don’t know how to make them all viewable || accessible

Thank you

Larry

Hi larry, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

In general, .msg files and emails extracted from a third party email program like Outlook, and can't be previewed on the Dropbox site.

However, you mentioned that all files in one folder changed to this extension. Were this files previously emails, or other kinds of files? Is this a shared folder or a private folder?

This will help me to assist further!

    Jay:

Correct all files once accessible now no longer accessible .msg files

Yes the folder is a shared folder with 5 other people

Separately, does Dropbox maintain an Audit trail including date/time each member activity on a shared folder ie delete or updating files for example ?

It's possible that folder was affected by ransomware, possibly from another user, and changed the extensions in the folder.

The version history of one of the files in the folder might help shed some light on the change to the extension.
