Autosave Feature on Desktop Application & Collaborative Working on Desktop Application

Hi, please find the our query below where we have also included the note from your Dropbox Technical Operator for further information.

Without repeating the entire concept, it would be very helpful and beneficial to a lot of users if Dropbox were to include an autosaving feature when operating out of the desktop application on Dropbox opposed to primarily on the web app. The desktop interface is much more efficient for our organization and I'm sure many others. It would also be worth having an interface on the desktop application that mirrors the functionality of the web application where multiple users are able to work live on a document from the desktop application (similar to Microsoft 365). Changes are obviously saved instantly for all users working on the same document out of the web application however not the desktop application which is an issue for our organization.

Dropbox Technical Operator Response:

Following our phone conversation earlier today, please note that, while your Dropbox desktop application is running in the background, any changes that would be done with your Dropbox content or the Desktop, Documents or Downloads folders you might backup, will be synced to the web version of Dropbox on Dropbox.com and to the rest of the devices that you're currently signed in with the same account on.

Additionally, as you were wondering if there is a way to autosave any changes you would perform on the Microsoft files located in your Dropbox folder in File Explorer, so in the scenario of a sudden shut down of your computer you won't lose any of your work, please note that, currently we don't have a specific feature associated with this option on our Dropbox desktop application.

As we're always looking for ways to improve Dropbox, we regularly release new versions of our products with better performance, additional features, and security enhancements.

Hey Jack95, thanks for taking the time to post this.

We really appreciate you sharing your thoughts about collaborative work through the Dropbox desktop app.

I will make sure your comments are passed along to our team.

In the meantime, since you mentioned Microsoft files as well, you might find the Dropbox badge feature helpful in avoiding conflicts when collaborating.

Let me know if you have any questions.
