I have had the same situation my data was taken out of my Dropbox account which I’ve also had for many years and a pic with a note requesting I contact a Gmail address or my data will be deleted after 3 days. It’s now past 3 days and it has been deleted. I am shocked at the effortlessness of the breach, how many more customers have had this and what has been done? I need my data back as it has years of important work and personal info. I need assistance urgently here is my cell number WhatsApp is no doubt better than messaging [email removed as per Community Guidelines]

2 years agoHey @Logjammin, sorry to hear about that!
Also keep in mind, that it's far from safe posting your personal phone number, or any other details in a public forum, therefore I removed them for you.
Do you have access to your Dropbox account at the moment?
Have you checked the events page, and deleted files page as Walter posted above?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

HI Megan
I wasnt expecting a reply hance my late message. I changed my email address and put on 2 factor auth. My files are back but there is no data in the older ones some in the newer ones. So i have no idea whats happened whether some data reloaded when i reloaded the desktop app or the hacker left some behind

Hey logjammin75 - sorry to jump in, but are you sure you're looking at the correct account?
If so, could you have a look at your deleted files page and the events page and let us know what you find?

HI Walter,
Yes I'm certain its the correct account, soon after the account was hacked i changed my email address and enabled 2 factor auth. What I'm seeing however is that there a quite a few members of this community who are raising similar issues i.e. hacked account data stolen please help! These cases could easily be career ending! However the replies from the dropbox staff are woefully ineffectual. Firstly a cloud storage platform like dropbox should never have such a litany of compromised security cases, secondly if these became public ie rather than on this community only, data restitution becomes an obligation when core features advertised on your website " Is Dropbox secure? Yes. Whether you have a personal Dropbox account, work in a team using Dropbox to collaborate, or oversee an enterprise-level solution as an IT admin—the security of your data is our highest priority", now are false and misleading, and thirdly i would expect a concerted highly visible response from dropbox senior management announcing every effort ensure the return of a customers data. The whole USP of this platform is secure data storage in the cloud. If this is compromised so effortlessly, the company should either close their doors or relentlessly pursue data retrieval otherwise what the hell is the point in using Dropbox. A "distant cousin type scenario" is the high profile and disastrous breach and exposure of members details on Ashley Madison, look at what happened? Why should my data that has been held on dropbox for more than 4 years be any less important than a cheating spouses details leaked to all and sundry? In fact its more important and cleaner, but this comment, "...are you sure you're looking at the correct account?" check the deleted files and events page, im sure is well meaning but assumes the smallest of responsibility and cheapens the entire case!
I could be wrong but if all of the community members who have suffered hacked accounts and had personal data stolen, came together, not difficult to orchestrate, and made the necessary "noise" highlighting Dripbox's porous data security measures. Arguably the single most important differentiator between cloud storage services. I hope this makes my position clear, i expect dedicated, solution orientated service, from experts and ASAP!
