I'm unable to rename a file after copying it from another sub-folder on my Mac.
Having this issue over the past several months. Saw another thread where others were having the same issue, but that thread was locked. I copy a file from one subfolder in Dropbox to another subfolde...

itâs not sorted, itâs an ongoing issue since the change in cloud storage under sonoma. From the other participants in this discussion itâs not an isolated issue. It always resolves itself eventually and I have to workaround until it does. Just that in this instance I had the opportunity to send screenshots to help you investigate further

I see, thanks for letting me know about this and please let me know if you notice this again in the future and we'll take it from there.

in the nicest possible way, that reply and the others in this discussion donât inspire confidence that anyone on the dropbox side is investigating or has investigated this ongoing issue

Happened again today, so I was able to test out your suggestion of signing out of my dropbox account on my computer and signing back in.
This did not resolve it.
What it did do was remove the "lock" status from any of the 24,000 files in my dropbox that were locked, which would be well over half of them, which is a disaster.

I didn't have this happen for quite some time, but it happened to me again last week. Same symptoms, the specific file in question doesn't have a right-click option for Dropbox actions. Can't rename it. Rebooting my Mac resolved the issue, and (crossing fingers) it hasn't come back again. Currently on Sequoia 15.3, Dropbox version 217.4.4417

well handy (albeit disappointing) to know that the problem persists through sequoia, not just on sonoma

more information: when a file is in this limbo state, if attempting to delete the file a pop-up will appear:
which is telling the truth. On confirming the deletion by choosing "Delete", the file does not move to the Trash as it would normally, but is deleted permanently.

Hi Ben P.1, just for clarification, do you have any proxy, VPN, firewall, security software, or even ISP/router settings that could be restricting traffic to the following Dropbox domains?
Is this a personal machine or a company-managed device?
- Ben P.110 months agoHelpful | Level 5
Hi Jay. No I do not.
Itâs a personal machine.
I donât use any proxy server nor security software other than whatâs in MacOS and extremely rarely use a VPN.
Itâs not network specific, as I said somewhere up above at the start what is likely different with me and most other users is that I may switch between networks multiple times a day, I use a lot of networks, a lot of tethering, and am often offline completely. But as we see from this thread it does affect other users too. Also wrt to my messages last week, I was on a single stable (afaik) network during the day.
