Recovering deleted files (older than 30 days)

I have a Dropbox Basic plan - and to date, I've only been on that plan.  I deleted files more than 30 days ago (but less than 180 days ago), which means they aren't available for me to recover.  With the Dropbox Professional plan (and similar plans), I'm able to recover files that were deleted up to 180 days ago.  Does that mean that if I now upgraded to one of those plans, I would be able to recover those files I deleted between 30 and 180 days ago?  Or would I have had to already been on one of those plans before I deleted the files, in order to be able to now recover them?

No. You would have had to be on one of the plans with a longer recovery time before the files were deleted. Unfortunately, there's no way to recover those files now. They're already gone.

No. Its not possible to recover past the 30 days regardless of what you now pay.

    Situation:

    • Long time Dropbox super user (9+ years).
    • Paid premium user for the past 7 years.
    • Recently downgraded to free "Dropbox Basic" three months ago.
    • In the process, I accidentally deleted some of my wife's important files (whoops).
    • Since I'm now a "Basic" user, I can't recover files deleted >30 days ago. Fair enough.

If I pay to (re)upgrade to Plus/Professional, will I regain the ability to recover deleted files that are between 30-180 days old?

I'm assuming the answer is "no," but I figured I'd ask anyway to keep me out of the dog house with my wife. Thanks in advance.

Hey frugalprof, thanks for reaching out to us.

I'm afraid that upgrading your account retroactively, won't help you restore your files.

The restoration window is the one you had at the time of the deletion.

Apologies for the inconvenience this might cause, but if there's anything else you need, please let us know.

The Dropbox Advanced plan includes one year of file recovery.
