21 days agoBest way to collect client uploads in one Dropbox folder and sort by client and date
I’m looking for some guidance on the best way to set up a streamlined upload flow for multiple clients.
Goal
I’d like to have a single upload point (for example, one shared link or form) that allows multiple clients to upload files without logging in. Ideally, when they upload:
- They provide their email address or name
- Dropbox automatically routes those files into a folder structure like:
Client Name (or email) → Submission date → Uploaded files
So, over time I’d end up with something like
- /Client A/email@clienta.com/2025-11-14/…files
- /Client B/email@clientb.com/2025-11-20/…files
- etc.
Questions
- Is there a native Dropbox feature (e.g. File Requests or similar) that can:
- accept uploads from multiple people via one URL,
- and also capture who uploaded what in a way that could be used to organise files per client?
- If not fully possible natively, what’s the best-practice approach people have used?
- Multiple File Requests?
- Dropbox + a form tool (Typeform, Jotform, etc.) + Zapier/Make to create folders and move files based on email address?
- Any recommended automations / templates that already do this?
I’m comfortable using third-party automation tools if needed, but I’d love to understand what’s realistically achievable within Dropbox first, and what the most robust setup would be.

Welcome DaveLyons !
I have a similaar sort of set up but as you cannot differentiate on uploaded files (although it does ask email when people upload....!) what I've done is have a folder with the dead original title of 'File Requests' and inside there a structure of lots of subfolders, each relating to a Project or Person. Each subfolder is then a specific file request link so they are sorted for me that way :)

HiJay
Thank you for your response. That would work and get me most of the way, I’ll just create a link per client, manage accordingly in comms and just segment then upon submissions (if needed) as opposed to automating before hand.
This will work too for another automated web and database backup I’m looking to do with the team. Thanks again!

Hi DaveLyons, thanks for posting today!
Currently, there is the option for a file request link, which allows users to upload files to your Dropbox account without requiring a Dropbox account.
However, the files aren't uploaded into subfolders like you requested, unless you use an automation to move files to different locations.
There might be some third party apps or services that could automate the process to make it easier for you.
I'll leave this thread open for other users to post their suggestions!
