44 TopicsQuestions about using Dropbox on an iPhone as a new iOS user
Just bought an iPhone after years with Android Phones, rather confused with the way Dropbox works with an iPhone. Appreciate some help and advise. A) On an Android, copying a folder from Dropbox to the Phone is a simple select and copy. Found out that for an iPhone, I must first download all the files in the Dropbox folder. Then only can I copy the folder into the iPhone. 1. Is my understanding correct or have I done/experienced something wrong here? B) When on holiday, I used the phone as a camera for photo taking. On an Android, after a day of photo taking, I will moved all the photos from the folder DCIM (this folder saves all of the photos that is capture using the phone’s camera) into a newly created folder named yyyymmdd in Dropbox. The original photos will then be deleted. 2. How can I do something similar on an iPhone? C. This may not be a Dropbox related question, but in case any iPhone experts come across this post :D I have copied an existing folder from Dropbox to my iPhone (Foler name : Fav_Photos). I will also be adding photos and videos into this folder progressively as times goes by. - On an Android, the gallery app (app name: Aves Gallery) will immediately notice any new images and populate the gallery. - Understand that Photos is the official photos app but none of the images and videos is detected/shown in the Photos app. 3. How should I proceed to enable the Photos app to auto populate with photos and videos from folder Fav_Photos? 4. Should I be using a separate gallery app? Which app? Thanks in advance for any help and advice.34Views0likes3CommentsMy file request files are named with "inbound" and a number
I have noticed that in my file request folder, there are several files named with a pattern such as inbound 116653248292738278 (as an example). I would appreciate it if you could help clarify the following: What does the "inbound" designation signify in this context? Is there a specific meaning or identifier associated with the sequence of numbers following "inbound"? Understanding this would help me manage the folder more effectively and ensure that all files are processed correctly.22Views0likes1CommentCan we have monthly folders for Camera uploads?
My proposal would help to sort the incoming photos in a proper way. I asked for an automatic creation of a folder like "2025_01" at the beginning of each month. The provider 1&1 Germany does it in this way. The photos should be filed into the monthly folders. Hence a better overview would be given.28Views0likes1CommentQuicker and effortless way of uploading large data
I got raw video data about 5 TB (mostly large video files 1+ GB) saved in two external drives. I started uploading data in my account but it's taking long (which is expected). Currently uploading files individually (one by one or if smaller size then in group of 4-5) and drag to the dashboard of folder where I want to upload that. And keeping record of what's been uploaded on a separate word file. I am wondering if there is any quicker way to upload or any tips? Thanks!27Views0likes2CommentsNaming convention not working on video files.
When logged into the web (Firefox as the browser), I set a naming convention for a folder so that it lists the Date Captured, then lists the time from the metadata: YYYY-MM-DD-HH.MM. When I did this, it worked for all of the photos I added in, but it didn't work on the videos at all no matter what I tried. Is this not working because it's the date "Captured", which doesn't really apply for video files? I don't want to use the "Date Uploaded", since that could mess up my own file organization, but I'm not sure what to do here.1.7KViews0likes27CommentsDropbox changes the modification and creation dates on all folders on the desktop app.
This is a problem since I cannot locate the most recent folders out of thousands easily. I use Drive for other backup items and it doesn't change my dates. Please fix this issue. I've seen others on the Community requesting the same fix.318Views0likes4CommentsEvery time I move a file btween shared folders it'll recreate the file of 0 bytes in original folder
Say I have this in my Dropbox: ~/Dropbox/shared/folderA/foo.txt ~/Dropbox/shared/folderB/ The folder "~/Dropbox/shared/" is shared between 2 Dropbox accounts. Then I move "foo.txt" from "folderA" to "folderB": ~/Dropbox/shared/folderA/ ~/Dropbox/shared/folderB/foo.txt The move operation succeeds as expected but after a few seconds "foo.txt" would reappear in "folderA" though its size is 0 bytes: ~/Dropbox/shared/folderA/foo.txt (0 bytes) ~/Dropbox/shared/folderB/foo.txt This is 100% reproducible and it happens on both macOS (Dropbox account #1) and win10 (another Dropbox account #2). For now I have to manually remove the 0 bytes file each time I move a file between folders. Any idea? UPDATE 10/08: Just tried and it turned out this can also be reproduced from Web browser (I'm using Chrome) and iPhone's Dropbox app.858Views0likes20CommentsJPG images uploading from my iPhone 11 to Dropbox as PDFs
All of my JPG images in Dropbox on my laptop have converted to PDFs and are uploading as PDFs from my phone. On the Dropbox app on my phone the images are still JPGs. Can anyone tell me the setting to convert everything back and have my uploads remain in JPG format? Adobe won't even let me open the PDFS saying I have to upgrade to Pro!168Views0likes1CommentMany team members can't see on their desktop app the files I've moved, or they get an error.
Hello. I use the web version of dropbox (www.dropbox.com) to organize files. Many of my team members prefer to use the DESKTOP version of drop box and open files through File Explorer. Many of the files that I've "moved" or reorganized via the web version cannot be seen by my colleagues who use the desktop version. Can anyone shed some light into how we fix this? The error message these users get indicates the file isn't found or can't be opened.Solved331Views0likes3Comments
