Not a problem, Diane!
If you're on the new Dropbox for macOS version of the app and the app sees that you're low on disk space, it will switch your files to online-only automatically, otherwise, you'll need to make them online-only manually.

3 years agoHey dddpol, thanks for joining us on the Dropbox Community!
When you add a file from your computer to your Dropbox folder, it will need to initially take up space in order to sync properly, even if you've set your new files to sync by default as online-only.
The setting refers to files you add to your account using the website or other devices; basically files that need to "sync down" to your computer.
If they need to "sync up" to be uploaded, they need space to sync first.
Once syncing is finished, though, you can go ahead and right-click the files to make them online-only.
I hope this clarifies things, but let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your answer !
I am ok for files to take space on my computer but I thought that when the upload was finished it would automatically switch to online mode without having to click myself. Is this possible ?
Thanks again
