Online-only files are re-downloading automatically
Dropbox version 218.4.4348
My files are marked as online-only, but download back to my hard drive space after opening. I want this to stop. It's bad enough that 6 months has passed and they still don't support CR3 files so all of my gallery previews are completely blown out, but now files are just redownloading themselves and eating the space I need.
Is there a setting to disable this?
Thanks for the update, Mirifent!
Dropbox is a service that allows you to sync your files across different devices and share them with other people.
When it it comes to online-only files, the expected behavior is the one I described in my previous reply, but you can manually change back the files to online-only at any time.
You can read more about the feature here.
If you don't want to keep your Dropbox files saved to your hard drive at all, you can also use Dropbox through our website at dropbox.com.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask and I'll happily clarify anything for you!

Thanks for reaching out to us, Mirifent.
Can you please clarify if the online-only files randomly sync back to your computer without you doing anything or if they sync back when you open them?
Because the latter would be expected for online-only files.
When a file is online-only, it's turned into a placeholder and you can only see its name in the Dropbox folder; to open it, it needs to re-download to the device.
Is this not the experience you've had so far?
Any additional info would be really helpful.
Thanks.

It's both, but isn't it supposed to be a cloud service?

That is exceedingly headache inducing, but the website is fine. I'll stick to that.
