Operating System/Browser (if using the web) (Windows 11 and Windows 10) Dropbox App Version (if using the app) (238.4.6075) Question or Issue This problem has bothered me for a while, I don't remember since when, but currently whenever I tried to save something into a Dropbox synced folder (such as a Powerpoint file or Word document) on Windows, the dropbox would start to sync all the supposedly online-only files within the folder and the syncing is really really slow. Most importantly, the syncing process would freeze the entire Save-As dialog and nothing can be done before the syncing is finished. This is not just limited to MS Office, but also other apps as well. Directly access the folder through Windows Explorer is OK. I am not sure if this is an Windows issue or a Dropbox issue. I suspect accessing the folder through an app other then Windows-Explorer would trigger Dropbox to believe you are trying to access all the files in that folder. I have updated Dropbox app to the newest version as suggested by support. And it happens on both of my desktop PC and laptop PC. Also I'd like to point out that I am accessing Dropbox through a proxy, which may explain the slow-syncing issue. Does anyone have similar experiences?33Views0likes3CommentsDropbox is stuck synching 60K files or 118GB and taking ~200% CPU
This information is not required, but it makes it easier for our Community members and support team to help you. Device iMac 2019 27-inch Retina 5K Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Sequoia 15.7.2 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) v238.4.6075 Syncing Status "Syncing 60,850 files " Question or Issue I recently updated my mac OS to Sequoia 15.7.2. Since that update my dropbox has been stuck at syncing thousands of files and has severely slowed my computer to the point that I can't use it (painfully slow and chugging along for a simple task). As you can see in the screenshots, it's no wonder since it is taking up so much CPU power (180-200%). For the first few days I've tried to let it run but the number of files had jumped up to double what it is with nothing actually going down. Important things to note: 1. new files are getting synched despite it syncing all these other files. I can see the updates in my other computer. 2. at around the same time I updated I attempted to have dropbox backup my photos as well which is the largest files and it could also be related to this slowing. I did this right after I updated my OS. As a result, I changed the dropbox settings and turned photo backup and syncing off (I had never synced my photos to Dropbox before). I also deleted any previous backups just to be sure and paused backups entirely. Please help!! My iMac is unusable and I need it for work. I almost attempted to delete everything and do a fresh sync but I'm worried it will just aggravate the issue and cause a full file sync even larger than what it is now. I can't tell if this is in some stuck problematic state or if it is in fact synching so many files because of some recent change (FYI I did not update that many files on dropbox that would warrant that large sync) .4Views0likes0CommentsI have two Dropbox folders on my computer - how can I fix this?

This new file system that you made me do is terrible. It take me ages to get my files to trasnfer now. Between dropbox and my desktop. Forget trying to workout of dropbox bx it just lags so bad. I have 5 computers and its doing it to all of them since this stupid update. Very diassapointed and looking at alternatives to dropbox at this point. Been a long time customer but its about to end. I never had issues until this change.11Views0likes1CommentThe desktop app is syncing forever
I am in this situation now. I have Dropbox business with 3 Tb and I have lots of files... It was fine until last week or so when I tried syncing and it syncs infinite. It starts at about 7K files and I let it run. I noticed that it will be at say 7232 files then it will jump to 7258 then start decreasing. It does this constantly but file numbers will vary. Eventually it gets to about 400 or so and it says a minute left, then it jumps back up to 800 and the process repeats over and over... Looking at the sync and storage in the app. It shows that I have like 5% of the dropbox on harddrive. This is not the case. I have it all on the drive so there is something rotten here. I've wasted way too much time on this and nothing works. I'll probably stop using this and go with a RAID system internally and swap out drives and periodically store one off site.31Views0likes2CommentsThe photos from my phone do not show up in the Photos and Screenshots folders on my laptop
Bought a new Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop, Windows 11, last Dec. Since then, my photos disappear after uploading from my Samsung Galaxy phone. Photos file and screenshot file are still in my Dropbox App on the laptop, but photos don't show up. Also got a storage limit alert email. In the last two weeks also noticed that control-print screen screenshots not showing up in Dropbox screenshot file ? Is this just Windows trying to force me to use their program ?25Views0likes1CommentHow to back up my Dropbox folder on an external drive?
Running Windows 11 Pro. I recently re-installed Dropbox to retrieve files still stored on the cloud. The default install put the folder location "C:\Users\michaelmunson\Dropbox" I attempted to change the folder location by going to Preferences > Sync > Dropbox folder location. I changed the location to the external drive where I wanted it to be. After a LONG time, there was a quick pop up error message that said that not all files could be transferred. (I dont know which ones and can't find a log with details.) When I open file explorer, I am still seeing dropbox in the original location (c:\users\) AND the new location (d:\dropbox\). When I check back in preferences under sync, the dropbox folder location is still showing the original (C:\users\). When I tried to do the process again to move it to the D drive, a pop up box noted that there was already a desktop.ini file on the D drive and it could not move the files. Any idea of how I can get dropbox to show up ONLY on the external drive? I ONLY want to be able to download ALL of the content to the external drive. I dont' need it to sync and don't plan on having this as a dynamic file location with new or changing files. This is simply a back up of prior files. Thanks for any help. michael33Views0likes2CommentsFinder context menu missing for Dropbox files on macOS
Hi everyone — after migrating from an iMac to a Mac mini 2024 (M4, 32GB), Dropbox sync works but Finder integration is gone. I first saw this on macOS Sequoia 15.5 and I’ve since updated to macOS Tahoe 26.1 with no change. Online-only files in my Dropbox folder show as 0 KB and download/open fine on double-click, but there are no Dropbox right-click options in Finder (no “Make available offline”, no “Online-only”, no Dropbox submenu). Tried: enabling Dropbox File Provider in Login Items & Extensions, granting Full Disk Access, relaunching Finder/rebooting, and full uninstall + reinstall from Dropbox .dmg. Still missing. I even contacted Dropbox Support and they haven't given me any solutions yet. Has anyone found a fix or workaround to restore the Finder context menu actions? Thanks!281Views0likes19CommentsMove or copy photos from iPhone or iCloud to Dropbox
I’m using the latest iOS 12 release, and the latest version of the Dropbox iOS app, on my iPhone X. I have over 7,000 photos on my iPhone; they are also synced to my iCloud. (The volume consists of pretty much every photo I’ve ever had on an iPhone, beginning with an iPhone 4S.) Having this number of photos on my iPhone has been making my iPhone quite sluggish. I tried using the Dropbox iOS app’s built-in feature to copy or move the photos to one of my Dropbox folders; but, on each attempt, the Dropbox iOS app hangs, after moving anywhere from few hundred to a couple of thousand photos. I then opened the iCloud app in Windows 10, intending to copy the photos en masse to Dropbox, then, once the move was confirmed, erase the photos from my iCloud. (I also tried this through accessing my iCloud via Google Chrome.) I can’t seem to select more than 1 photo at a time, in my iCloud photos area. As you can imagine, selecting over 7,000 photos, one at a time, is not feasible. Thank u VERY much, peeps, for any help with this! 🙂Solved45KViews4likes4CommentsDesktop App stuck on "Updating Dropbox account..."
