The desktop app (Windows 11) is still trying to index files that are set to be ignored.
Application Affected
(Dropbox)
Device
(Macbook Pro 16 2019)
Operating System/Browser (if using the web)
(Windows 11)
Dropbox App Version (if using the app)
(246.3.3430)
Question or Issue
I am trying to use the new ignore rules file to ignore things like "node_modules" using rule "node_modules/".
It seems to correctly ignore and not upload the node_modules directory, but it still spends a lot of time indexing them. This is not what I would expect. If it matches an ignore rule, why waste time and CPU indexing it?
Thanks,
D

Hi there damienbutt - thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Can you please send us a screenshot of where you're spotting the CPU spikes including the Dropbox desktop app's status as shown in the taskbar?
Also, since you're running a beta version of the app, you could try installing the latest stable version from this page directly. Just make sure to toggle off the 'early releases' from your account's settings first.
Let me know of any updates!

I'm seeing the same thing with .venv folders. In fact, it's creating issues, because uv is changing the files faster than Dropbox releases the lock on them, which leads to errors about uv not being able to remove files.

Hey Yehuda D. - could you clarify the OS version of your computer and the version of the Dropbox desktop app installed there?

Thanks for shipping this great feature!
Dropbox still appears to index ignored directories, which creates issues. I'm using it to ignore .venv folders created by uv, but uv is changing the files faster than Dropbox releases the lock on them, which leads to errors about uv not being able to remove files. - Yehuda D.6 hours agoHelpful | Level 6

Hey Yehuda D.! When did you first opt to ignore these files?
I’d also like a screenshot of the ignore rules you’ve set for them, as well as one more showing how they appear within your Dropbox folder (feel free to send me a visual of your desktop app’s syncing status, as well).
