Device Desktop PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Pro Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 237.4.5655 My desktop app has been stuck syncing for about a week. We ran out of space on our work Dropbox network (80TB used). I freed up around 20TB of space and all PC's on the network apart from mine successfully (after some time) synced the changes. Mine however was stuck at 5.5 million files syncing. I left it to do its thing for several days with no change. So I followed the "advanced reinstall" instructions on this page https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall. The reinstall was successful and it seemed as though things were moving again. However for the last few days I've been stuck with between 12,000 and 16,000 files syncing. The number gradually goes up day to day. I'm working on Dropbox still, as are my colleagues so this may be why. I have to manually download my colleagues files and place them where they should be syncing before using them. When I hover my mouse over the DB icon in the system tray it says its downloading the 16k files, uploading around 40 files. But very little download up upload bandwidth is actually being used. I have a gigabit connection so I don't believe its actually doing much at all on the network. How can I fix this? We have around 60TB of files on our DB network and I have around 500GB of that synced at any given time. Thanks for any assistance!183Views1like18CommentsRestoring to a new drive after failure w/ thousands of selective sync errors on my cloud
Generic PC Win 11 desktop Windows 11 Latest version Syncing Status: Up to date (no local files) I've been paying for Dropbox since 2012 - I have .75 TB stored in my Dropbox. It usually works well - I had a hard drive failing and was not able to move my Dropbox to another drive after 3 days trying with the move feature, so I used the 'security' feature to remove Dropbox and local files from this machine. I then attempted to re-sync, and now there are *thousands* of files in my Dropbox cloud that are marked as selective sync errors. Manually merging them one by one is going to be an enormous hassle. I'd like just to use the cloud version of my work, but have to remove the selective sync conflicts that are spread across many, many folders, zip files, etc. Any suggestions? Right now, I have everything set to the cloud. My Dropbox after reinstall is successfully set up on a new working 3TB drive - but it looks like Dropbox didn't remove all of the old drive files though I removed this machine and asked it to delete. TLDR: How do I resolve thousands of selective sync issues and just use my cloud storage version as the authoritative source? Is there a tool for this?34Views0likes3CommentsI can't change the Dropbox folder location on Windows; it keeps reverting to the C drive.
Application Affected Dropbox Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11, Question or Issue I recently had to set up a new user profile on my PC. I previously had my dropbox folder location set to D:\Dropbox but when set up the new user profile and re-installed dropbox, it changed the location to within the user profile (c:\users\username\dropbox). I tried changing location (using Preferences > Sync > Dropbox folder location), and each time I try it looks as though it has worked, but then reverts back to the C drive location. I tried deleting the old dropbox folder on the D drive, and changing location again, still the same process - it says it's been successful and resyncs the files, but then when I open the dropbox location it has reverted back to the C drive. Any guidance gratefully received!54Views0likes4CommentsCan I use the desktop app on my Mac, Windows and Linux devices to sync my files?
Question or Issue I'm a personal user. My home office has macOS, Windows, and Ubuntu/Gnome systems. Can each of these have a Dropbox folder/directory that automatically syncs to the cloud, so changing the contents of the directory on one system will (soon) be reflected in the contents of the other two as well as in the cloud contents? I assume each system would require installation of Dropbox Desktop.Solved30Views0likes2CommentsDropbox 237.4.5655 - syncing hangs on 30 files forever or '"waiting for download".
Device PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 237.4.5655 Syncing Status Syncing 30 files Question or Issue This weekend on all my pc's and laptops (all Windows11) the new dropbox update was installed automatically. On my working laptop, this went as a charme, no problem. My backup laptop started to index all files, then syncing and now it stays on "Werkruimte downloaden" (workspace?) - after a reboot, he starts syncing and then it goes to above and stays there. No progress. All files are synced, but Dropbox keeps on "busy". My PC started to index first all files (more than 300k of number of files), then syncing, from 16 hours to 6-8 hours at least. Then it showed, that there were 2 files left to sync, 412KB , so this would be in a blink of an eye. It stayed there forever. Then i tried: clearing cache, unlink/link again and wait again for 6-8 hours. I also tried to deselect the files for syncing, but no solution there. Now it states it still wants to download/sync 30 files.... (waiting for download) and stays there. So one out-of-three the update went smooth, but the other two are still trying to get the syncing finished. Any ideas how to move forward on this update? Kind regards, Jeroen120Views0likes9CommentsNo option to "make available offline" in Dropbox for Windows new version.
I had to uninstall and reinstall Dropbox for Windows desktop today, and now the Status column of all my files and folders has changed - previously they were all available offline but now they all have a cloud icon, i.e. they are only availably online. In Preferences all my folders are selected, but the folders still have a cloud icon against them and their contents are still not available offline. And if I right-click on them there is no "make available offline" option. So how can I get their offline status back?? I do NOT want ANY of my files to be online only - and none of them were before I reinstalled Dropbox desktop for Windows. I need to restore my system due to a problem with my Windows/Fonts folder. However, whenever I try to run System Restore, after about 20 minutes Windows restarts with the following error message: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8cs9ufypm9f2ntom1jvin/temp-1.png?rlkey=ny26ffpl7ssueq13h1lh67duz&st=wzq01mjv&dl=0 (I tried posting the above url as a link but I got a message saying that the link contained invalid html! But I didn't write any html, I just used the Insert Link button. Why doesn't the Insert Link button create links that can be posted?) As the error message was referring to a Dropbox folder, and I don't need Dropbox to be restored, I need my Fonts folder to be restored, I tried uninstalling the Dropbox desktop app for Windows and running System Restore again - but I got the same error message. I then tried deleting the Dropbox folder from my hard drive, and running System Restore again - but I still got the same error message. So how can I restore my syste? I have a hunch that the problem might be somehow related to the fact that I upgraded Dropbox for Windows at the time of the last automatic restore point. But how can I get round it? It is extremely serious if the Dropbox upgrade has somehow made it impossible to run System Restore. How can I fix this? As per MasterOfDragon I too want to see the online folders in my Dropbox directory in the app. I used to be able to see both online only and offline folders and files. they were annotated with a cloud (for online only) or a green tick (offline). I have followed the directions of https://help.dropbox.com/sync/selective-sync-overview#How-to-use-selective-sync but the problem persists. Surely there must be a way to see what folders/files are online only without logging on to the web service. thanks63Views0likes4CommentsHow to safely remove shared folder from hard drive, owned by a student who graduated and left?
I am a professor at University of Florida (I need to use my personal email here, it never worked with UF email). All my graduate students and I all use Dropbox. Each student has a project folder shared with me, so that when they graduate I have access to the files for future use. Now, if a new student comes, and I pass the previous student computer to him/her, the project folder is still in the computer. How can we safely remove that shared folder from the hard drive and keep them on the web (and my computer)? The old student UF account is disabled so the files cannot be made online only by the old student (and he left anyways). I can access the folder on that pc with my UF account. I can delete the folders manually, which should be safe since in my UF account my dropbox folder is synced, not theirs. But would would happen if the old student decides to come back to work for me as a post doc (or it was a master student who wanna work as a Phd student) some time in the future, their UF account is reactivated, and the PC is given back to them? would the project folder be lost?
