396 TopicsImpossible to Restore an External Drive Backup
Dropbox is an absolute joke! If you back up an external drive and that drive crashes, congratulations â youâve just discovered that Dropbox âBackupâ is basically useless. You cannot restore the backup to a new drive. Let that sink in. A backup service that canât restore to new hardware... Yeah, funny, I know. Your only option? Crawl to the web interface like itâs 2005 and manually download your own data. And it gets worse: you canât even download large folders. Try it and youâll be slapped with âtoo many filesâ or ZIP limit errors. So instead of restoring a drive, youâre forced to download a few folders at a time, over and over, for thousands of folders. Absolute insanity. - Easy for Dropbox support clowns to say, just do it in small batches... Right. You do understand that some of your clients have subfolder within subfolders where some of those folders have large volumes of data? Oh, duh, just download one folder at a time. OK Dropbox Support Hero, how do I reliably rebuild all this manual intervention without accidentally losing valuable data? Come on guys! You should have a restore drive option that mirrors the data on your useless server with the new drive. Dropbox Backup is not a backup service â itâs a data hostage situation. Itâs fine for a couple of documents, but if you trust it with real data, youâre asking for pain. I paid for 2TB and got a masterclass in how not to design a backup product. If you value your time, your sanity, or your data: stay far away from Dropbox Our company has almost 40 team members, we are ALL moving to Google Drive the moment our paid subscriptions end.123Views0likes6CommentsWindows cannot find folders revealed by search Dropbox
Device Custom PC - 13th Gen i7, 48GB Ram Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Dropbox App Version/Browser Version 241.4.4795.0 Question or Issue When I search dropbox and then click on a folder, windows cannot find the folder. This is only happening with some folders, not all. This was never a problem prior to the recent update.Solved59Views0likes7CommentsDocuments are just missing but I didn't delete them
I'm on a Windows PC with a laptop as well as a laptop and iPhone. I have a lot of documents, and something has happened where my documents literally have been deleted. I can't find a version control on missing documents. These are documents I would not have deleted because I use them in knowledge bases in my custom GPTs, and they're still there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know I'm being pretty generic, but I'm at a loss right now.17Views0likes6CommentsFiles simply gone without any mention of them anywhere in the account
have used Dropbox for years - have thousands and thousands of files from past company photoshoots and various creative assets. Files that cost more than a pretty penny to produce. We are in those folders on a monthly (if not weekly) basis. Then - nothing. Gone. The folders still exist, but no files are showing in the folders. Nothing in the file history, events log, or replay. They are simply gone without a trace. Chat bot keeps telling me to email the latest event from the log to support team, but there is ZERO events related to those folders? And the links provided by the bot to reach out to support simply take me back to the AI chat bot. And around and around we go. with no solution, answers or files.36Views1like3CommentsI can't open a folder shared with me; it appears grayed out on the Dropbox website.

Device HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-w0XX Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 10 Dropbox App Version/Browser Version (240.4.8609)/(Firefox 147.0.2 - 64 bits, Google-Chrome) Question or Issue Since quite some time I can't use (download) files from my dropbox. I continuously synchonize my documents with Dropbox (as back-up), and have the impression that things changed when I installed a new laptop (the previous one crashed). In the security chapter of the admin in stated: "Vault is no longer availableâyour files were moved to a Dropbox folder." Also my windows explorer became VERY slow in recognizing files and folders and showing the content (see screenshot). Where and how can I unlock those (blocked) files? Anything else I should do to avoid this repeating. because I will need a new laptop in the course of this year?64Views0likes4CommentsSpace unavailable when trying to access a shared folder. Is my quota not enough?
Dropbox Plan Basic 2gb I have a brand new Dropbox account with nothing saved in it so completely empty. My employer at work is trying to share with me her work Dropbox account which still has space available. However when I click the link it flashes up that I don't have enough space to access the files. Surly I don't need to be on a business account as well to be able to get to them?26Views0likes1CommentList of not-synced folder when using Dropbox Selective Sync
When using Dropbox Selective Sync how I can see a list or generate a report of the folders I do not see on this device (i.e. I do not sync to this device)? I know in the Dropbox Selective Sync Panel I can click through all the folder and subfolders to find the ones I do not sync, but a list in a text or PDF file would be more helpful when I'm going to recreate the same sync behaviour on another machine.94Views1like4CommentsI lost the files in my Family group folder, after upgrading to a Dropbox team plan.
I went ahead and upgraded my subscription from a Family group to a business multi user subscription and now it has removed the Family group folder with all my files before I could transfer to my new upgraded membership folder. This is a pretty silly automation in the system, how can I transfer to my new folder if they aren't there?31Views0likes2CommentsMy Windows 11 File Explorer freezes, when I take an action on my Dropbox files.
Since the upgrade of my computer on mid august, I suffer an unbearable bug with dropbox. Note that only the dropbox folder is making issues ; all options work well on the website, and that problme occurs ONLY while I'm in dropbox folder. The issue When I double-click on a subfolder, when I right-click on a file (in order to share it as a link for example) or when I replace a file (like copy/paste a new version), 90% of the time this file explorer window freezes. If I let it runs, it may or may not eventually make the action after 1 to 10 minuts. If, during this time, I open a new file explorer window and navigate into it until I reach Dropbox, the exact same problem occurs on this second window. That makes Dropbox totally unusable to me, so I consider switching to google drive instead of Dropbox after many loyal years. My workflow is badly and painly handicaped by this bug. I tried to uninstall and reinstall dropbox, to move it from a Sata SSD to an NVME SSD (and back), to update it, update windows, update nvidia drivers. I even udpated my bios. I also tried to disable my firewall. Nothing works. I readed many other users topics encountering the exact or almost same issue. I tried all suggested solutions in those posts i readed, but nothing worked for me. I'm about to give up, but maybe will you have an idea to fix this. Last chance. Hardware infos Application Affected : Dropbox Device : PC (Asrock Z890 wifi legend, Core ultra 7 265K, 48Go DDR5, RTX 4070) Operating System/Browser : Windows 11 24H2 (on NVME SSD) - Firefox.
