I would like to bring to your attention a concerning practice that appears to affect free-tier users. Dropbox is not any more secure without external backup. It has become evident that certain shared folders (which are visible and accessible in read-only mode under a single account) are intentionally excluded from backups and event logging for users on the free plan. This omission makes it effectively impossible to track or recover any changes or deletions, as: Backup history is almost not available for free accounts. Event and activity logs are retained for only 30 days in the free tier. No relevant events or actions appear in the logs, even when changes or deletions are suspected. This issue has been reported and discussed by multiple users across various forums and communities, with many suspecting that folders are being deliberately hidden or removed in free accounts as a way to pressure users into upgrading to a paid subscription.19Views0likes1CommentMy files appear to be empty after editing
Hello, I'm on an ASUS Zenbook running Windows 11. I have a shared dropbox folder that constantly has files getting wiped/copied (when they get copied they are empty) showing up on the dropbox. It always shows me editing the file and its usually multiple at the exact same time. All the files have nothing in them and instead are blank. I know you can restore the file but its been happening for months and across multiple different shared folders and its honestly a headache to fix. Help appreciated, thanks in advance.57Views0likes4CommentsMy Basic account shows 2.6 TB âshared filesâ but I cannot see or leave any shared folder
Hi, My personal Dropbox account ([removed]) shows 2.64 TB used out of 2.5 GB. The storage page says that the space is used by âShared files (2.6 TB)â but I cannot see any shared folders in my account. I am not part of any team and I cannot find any shared folders under the /sharing or /share pages, or anywhere else in the interface. My own files are only around 190 kB. I also cannot change owner settings or leave any shared folder because nothing is visible. It seems like my account is linked to an old or hidden âlegacy shared spaceâ which is not visible in the current interface and cannot be removed by myself. Could a Dropbox Staff member please disconnect this hidden or legacy shared space from my account? This is the only way to restore the correct storage usage. Thank you very much. Question or Issue I'm a pro photographer and I use dropbox to deliver photos to my clients. I number each photo (i.e. "Smith-1, Smith-2, Smith-3, etc...). Dropbox used to share them in order (lowest number to highest) now they share in reverse order (highest number to lowest). I want to change this back to the way it was but I'm having no luck figuring it out. Any help??Solved81Views0likes5CommentsHow to safely remove shared folder from hard drive, owned by a student who graduated and left?
I am a professor at University of Florida (I need to use my personal email here, it never worked with UF email). All my graduate students and I all use Dropbox. Each student has a project folder shared with me, so that when they graduate I have access to the files for future use. Now, if a new student comes, and I pass the previous student computer to him/her, the project folder is still in the computer. How can we safely remove that shared folder from the hard drive and keep them on the web (and my computer)? The old student UF account is disabled so the files cannot be made online only by the old student (and he left anyways). I can access the folder on that pc with my UF account. I can delete the folders manually, which should be safe since in my UF account my dropbox folder is synced, not theirs. But would would happen if the old student decides to come back to work for me as a post doc (or it was a master student who wanna work as a Phd student) some time in the future, their UF account is reactivated, and the PC is given back to them? would the project folder be lost? Dropbox Plan Plus Are you a Team Member or Admin? No. I own the account. There is no Admin, and there are no Team Members Do you have access to the email linked to the account? Yes Are there any devices connected to your Dropbox account? Not that I'm aware of. Question or Issue I created a new folder. It is not within another folder - when I click All Files, it shows at that level. Then I tried to Share it and I got the message below. I've never encountered this problem before when creating folders. What have I done wrong, and how can I create a new folder that I can share?53Views0likes4CommentsHow can I move a shared folder I don't own out of my root directory?
I have clicked on a link to see a shared folder for which I have editing privilege. The folder is in my dropbox in the root directory, but it is no use to me there, I need it in another place in the directory structure. I cannot see how to move it, I can move the directories inside the main folder, but then it will disappear form the other peoples dropbox. I do not mind having two copies of it all as I have the space, but need to find a way to either move the main directory or the sub directory's to a different location within my dropbox without causing an issue to the person who shared with me and keep two way link enabled. I am doing this online in the web application, I do not use the desktop application, Thank you69Views0likes4Comments
