Solved

Link required login, logged in and link no longer works.

I received a link to view and edit a folder.
I clicked on the link and was prompted to log in. After doing so (with a new dropbox account on the same email I have previously registered with...), clicking the link returns the following:

"Invalid Link

This link isn't quite right

Usually this happens when the link wasn't copied exactly right."

Firstly, I would like to solve the problem.
Secondly, I would very strongly urge whomever at dropbox might see this (like that's going to happen), to kick this issue up the chain of command, because this is a garbage problem that should not occur, and definitely not in the span of minutes.

"When you say you logged in with a new Dropbox account, on the same email you have previously registered with, can you let me know more?
Did you use a new account for a specific reason?"

->Yes. I have previously registered using the email address example@example-address.com, which is the address at which I received the invitation.
My password was rejected, and I requested a password reset sent to my email example@example-address.com. I did not receive any email, and registered a new account.
My new account was registered with the same email address, namely example@example-address.com.
To rephrase: I am only referring to one (1) single email address, and I am deliberately obscuring it on this open forum for reasons of privacy and preventing spam.
Everything is registered or otherwise related to that single email address, example@example-address.com.

"Can you try to open the link, while you're already logged in your browser to the Dropbox account the sender used to send you the link to? "

->No. I cannot login to another person's account. Why would you ask me to do that?

"If you have a screenshot of the error message you received, feel free to attach it here, so that we can have a visual. "

->Why? I already copied and pasted the error message in my initial post. There is no more information.

"Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there! "

->No problem, Megan! However, I am not mentally disabled, and I would greatly appreciate being treated as a normally functioning adult going forward.

Hi IDontAppreciateDropb0x, let's jump right into this!

When you say you logged in with a new Dropbox account, on the same email you have previously registered with, can you let me know more?

Did you use a new account for a specific reason?

Can you try to open the link, while you're already logged in your browser to the Dropbox account the sender used to send you the link to?

If you have a screenshot of the error message you received, feel free to attach it here, so that we can have a visual.

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Hey IDontAppreciateDropb0x, can you please check with the person that shared the link with you, to confirm which steps they used to create it?

If they invite you to the folder instead, by using these steps, can you then access the folder?

->We are abandoning dropbox entirely. This convoluted mess you call a service is clearly not an improvement for our use case.
Do you have any options to recommend? Google Drive, is that any good?

This (see picture) is the email invitation I received.
Just to be absolutely clear, my account registration is NOT an issue I believe I need any help with, and as far as I can tell, that whole situation was resolved prior to making this post. It is in effect a mere digression which I only even mentioned, foolishly as I understand now, in order to provide context. The issue I am experiencing is the invitation link I received working well enough to prompt a login, but within minutes returning an error message.

Now I know working support is hardly a dream job, and some people ask for help before even attempting to solve their issues, but I humbly ask you to consider, just for a moment, that some other people actually do try to resolve things on their own, and if your imagination permits, maybe even I could be one of those latter people - I certainly believe I am, and my experience with other products and services has so far generally confirmed this belief.

In return, I will accept that maybe I am wrong; maybe registering a new account with an email previously registered really is the source of all my woes. Certainly I do not have insight to dropbox' underlying code structure, nor would I rate my technical understanding high enough to make sense of it even if I did. Maybe dropbox' error messages are very subtly color coded, and the background color on an error page, not the text, is what identifies for dropbox' technical and support staff what led to the error being displayed. I don't know everything, after all.

No, Jenna, I am not able to do that.

The link that I did receive originally was working well enough to prompt a login.

However, after logging in minutes later (let's just say less than 10 minutes later, due to an entirely separate and by now fully resolved and presumably irrelevant issue), clicking (not copying) the same link again returned an error page, the relevant text of which I have previously copied and pasted in the thread.

Thanks for the additional info provided here and the feedback.

Are you able to access the folder in question, if you go directly to the shared tab in your account?

That way you don't need to click on the link each time.
