Share ics files for calendar app
Hi, I would like to share some script-generated .ics files via a dropbox shared link so that I can sync it with my phone's/mac's calendar app.
It used to work... years ago, but now when I enter the dropbox shared link like
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9thqahtdtz707eq/main.ics?dl=1
and copy it to Kalendar.app it messes up the URL and I end up with
/s/9thqahtdtz707eq/main.ics
So the calendar is not syncing correctly...
When I add another like e.g. with parameter like
https://example.com/main.js?dl=1
It works perfectly...
So since this used to work on older OSX I also tried that using 10.11 and there I have the same issues....
Long story short, did something change on dropbox's side so that sharing .ics files via a public link does not work any more?

Hello hubionmac, thanks for reaching out to us here!
As far as I know, there haven't been any recent changes in how the shared links are generated, but I'd be happy to look into this further with you.
Would you mind just providing me a little more info on the steps that you're taking to accomplish this such as where are you copying the shared link from?
If you could let me know a step-by-step guide on what you're workflow with this is, it would be very helpful.
Also, if you were to create a shared link for another file type does this copy over correctly?
Looking forward to your reply!

The OS is in german, but the shortcuts should be the same ;-)

That's perfect, thanks for that hubionmac!
Would you mind letting me know if you have the same issue when using a shared link for another file type?
Since the link is being copied correctly from Dropbox, I'm wondering if perhaps the calendar app isn't recognising the link properly.

Hi Daphne,
another filetype I cannot use, since the app needs .ics files ;-)
But I tried to upload the ics file to my webspace and used that link instead
and it worked... even when I added dl=1 or any other parameter to it (just to check if that confuses calendar)
But no...
https://hubionmac.com/main.ics?dl=1
works (shows source in browser)
https://p45-calendars.icloud.com/holidays/de_de.ics
works as well (downloads direktly in browser)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9thqahtdtz707eq/main.ics?dl=1
does not work as explained.... because the URL is messed up somehow...
After contacting Apple they said it must be a Drobbox issue...
My second though: the Calendar-App messes up dropbox-links on purpose?!

I'm not sure that there's much I can suggest here I'm afraid hubionmac.
Since the link is copied correctly and it appears fine at first, what is occurring to the link there is down to how the Calendar app is handling it.
There may be some other users here would could make some suggestions, so your thread will remain open in the meantime. Sorry that I can't be of much more help with this, the only thing I could suggest would be to reach out to the app devs which you already have done.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
