Would the tracking also work if you sent the file without placing it in a folder first?

Would you be sharing the file itself (through the 'share' option and typing in the email address of the recipient) or a shared link to the file?

Hi becklouis, in addition to what's described above, we recently shipped the Send and Track feature on Dropbox Essentials, Business, and Business Plus.
The feature allows you to create links specific to the content you're sharing. Based on these links, you'll be able to tell which version of content your client is seeing.
In addition to this, you'll get insights into how your client engaged with your content. For example, you'll be able to see which page of a PDF your client spent the most time on.
