Why was the way screenshots were handled changed?
Me and my friends question what drove the people behind this software to break something intentionally like that? I work as a Quality Assurance expert, and can only see this change as sabotage. Whe...

We have an additional fix for issues with "show floating thumbnail" out in V224, which is available as of April 29. As far as we know right now, this resolves all versions of this issue. Thanks for everyone who raised the issue and provided so much detail so we can resolve!

8 months agoHi, folks!
First, Melissa90879397924, xam, availablelight -- Thanks so much for flagging all of this!
To make sure I'm not missing anything, the issue you're having is: After disabling the "Show floating thumbnail" option in your MacOS screenshot settings, it's being re-enabled (i.e., the MacOS thumbnail is popping up again) randomly; and this seems to only happen when you've got Dropbox running?
I've flagged that issue with the team, and we're already digging in! We hope to have a fix for this shipped soon -- I'll keep you posted!
If I've missed any other/related issues here, let me know, and I'll make sure to pass those along.
Cheers,
Ryan

The bug is still persisting for me. I upgraded to v222.4.5042
does not seem like its fixed.

the bug can be replicated with the new v.222, just close and restart dropbox. the menu item for "show floating thumbnail" in mac screenshot settings gets activated again.

I'll follow up on this for v.222! These settings are sticking for me on the upcoming version, so a fix is definitely expected.
I have 'Remember last selection' checked and 'Show floating thumbnail' unchecked.

Hi, I'm on v222.4.5042, and this does not seem fixed.
Bug: Dropbox turning the "Show floating-thumbnail" back to On while it was Off, and should stay Off.The problem is that it can take an undetermined amount of time to re-occur. eg. Iâve manually set "Show floating-thumbnail" to off Sunday apr20, then all seemed fine, took some more screenshots Mo apr21 Afternoon, then suddenly when taking another screenshot in the evening, the floating-thumbnail showed up again. In the meantime, I change none of the settings.
(What I did Apr20 to be exact:- in Dropbox itself under Screenshots > Save screenshots to Dropbox is off.
- In MacOS I have pressed Cmd + Shift + 5 to show the Screenshot settings menu, and set "Show floating-thumbnail" to Off,
- âRemember last selectionâ is On. )
What I found to immediately trigger the bug is by in Dropbox simply toggling the âScreenshots > Save screenshotsâ-toggle On and Off. That is, when itâs Off, toggle it On, then immediately Off again. When I now press Cmd + Shift + 5 to show the Screenshot settings menu "Show floating-thumbnail" is now turned back On.
So I am able to trigger to bug through this proces, however, it ALSO happens on itâs own after a certain period, which could be related to a timer or perhaps MacOS going into hibernation mode, then wake again. Perhaps on wake Dropbox does some re-initialization or smt.
In my experience itâs either after 3-4hrs, or the next day before the bug re-occurs. But hopefully going through the code with above reproduction-steps is enough to squash both bugs.
Good luck! Iâm sure many of us are waiting with great anticipation for the final fix to be rolled out.
