Dropbox shows 7.4GB used with only 5.21MB in files

5.21MB in Dropbox and usage is showing 7.4GB

All of a sudden my Dropbox went from using under 50% to full. I figured maybe my Synology was dumping temp file where it shouldn't during backups but couldn't find a culprit.

I went as far as deleting everything from my Dropbox folder until the online view showed nothing there.

Usage still showing 7.4GB.

So far I have moved back one folder I need constant access to that is 5.21MB.

Current' usage online still shows 7.4GB.

I did remove all shares and delete them per another post.

  • Hey mtxguy74, sorry to hear about this.

Could you clarify what exactly is reported in your plan tab in regards to your quota?

Also, do you see any files or folders taking up space in your homepage or your backups page?

Let me know what you find and we'll take it from there.

Thanks so much for the help, it was a backup.

It was a backup that was created through no action on my part by a feature I never enabled.

I am relatively savvy but I had no idea to even look for backups because it is not something I use in Dropbox.

Is there a way to turn off the backup feature on my account?

Is there a way to provide feedback directly to Dropbox? This just feel like a way for them to chew through small storage accounts like mine and encourage a ridiculous $12 per month for 2TB of storage.
