Referral sent to a friend marks as inelegible
Hi
I sent a request to a friend for them to install Dropbox. They followed all the process steps and were awarded 259mb. On my account against their referral email, it is marked as ineligible.
This does not make any sense, they set up the account on a different computer. So why is this marked as ineligible? Can someone please look into this for.
My email is <<removed to avoid spam>>
Regards, Tahir
- Hey Ranim Al-shakifi, thanks for joining the discussion here and happy Monday!
I just wanted to mention that when the recipient is ineligible for the referral program, there are two possible reasons:
One is that the recipient has already registered an account with Dropbox with that email address, or that the recipient is attempting to register using the same computer as you.
If you feel this status is inaccurate double-check the email address of your recipient to try again.

Hey johnny18420, sorry to jump in here.
In order for the referral to be valid, this person would need to install the Dropbox desktop app on their computer as well, did they do this?
Here are the steps they need to follow.

Hi Jay,
The person I referred to does not have a Dropbox account. He created one for school and his personal which is brand new. He signed up using the link I provided. He is sharing an internet provider with his family member that may have Dropbox but he does not have one. Can you please help. I referred to him brand new and it's not fair why I'm not getting any additional storage nor does he get it either. Are you able to do something about this?

Hi johnny18420, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
If a referral is ineligible, it means that they either already have an account, or they're trying to activate the referral on the same machine or network as the one you're on.
If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

Hi all,
I referred Dropbox to a colleague for both his work and school. Would this be eligible? They were both marked as ineligible and I don't understand why. I didn't receive extra bonus space and I don't think it's fair.
Why did this happen?

Hi Dorian_C, I hope you're doing well!
I'd need some account-specific info, in order to be able to check what we can do about this. Can I send you an email, in order for us to investigate further?
Let me know!

I have a question with 2 referrals where one still just says "invitation sent" (but the person showed me that she's using it) and the other (sent at about the same time at the end of 2022) had also said "invitation sent," where he thought he was all setup, but wasn't sure, so we tried again and now it has changed to "Ineligible" and the date changed to today. Can we get credit for these? I believe they meet all the requirements: new Dropbox accounts and installs on Windows.

@davidgomez79, specifically, he needs to install the Desktop (PC or Mac) Dropbox application using the account that you invited. I believe (but not certain), it must be a PC or Mac that does not already have another Dropbox account on it. The current Dropbox promo does not support mobile devices, even if those devices are the only ones some of your contacts or family have access to.
Dropbox's purpose in giving away the free space is to increase Dropbox usage among desktop users, competing with OneDrive and Google Drive in the hope that some of those free users will shift to paid users. I realize you could argue that mobile users could also become paid users, but for whatever reason, probably that Dropbox doesn't see as high a conversion rate to paid users among mobile free-tier users, they have never offered the reward for getting a new mobile user.
