Referral sent to a friend marks as inelegible
Hi
I sent a request to a friend for them to install Dropbox. They followed all the process steps and were awarded 259mb. On my account against their referral email, it is marked as ineligible.
This does not make any sense, they set up the account on a different computer. So why is this marked as ineligible? Can someone please look into this for.
My email is <<removed to avoid spam>>
Regards, Tahir
- Hey Ranim Al-shakifi, thanks for joining the discussion here and happy Monday!
I just wanted to mention that when the recipient is ineligible for the referral program, there are two possible reasons:
One is that the recipient has already registered an account with Dropbox with that email address, or that the recipient is attempting to register using the same computer as you.
If you feel this status is inaccurate double-check the email address of your recipient to try again.

That would be reason for a referral to be ineligible. Dropbox can't have been installed on the computer at all, even for a previous user.
Your only option is to try contacting Support, or perhaps a Dropboxer will see this thread when they return on Monday and open a ticket for you.

Thank you for the suggestions but:
- we were not on the same network.
- for sure 2 of them installed on a computer that has never had Dropbox installed previously(one has doubt about it, maybe already installed by another user on the same computer).
- the email has been verified, and in any case, if that were the problem, the status would be "Waiting for email verification" as indicated in the link you sent, but instead it says "Ineligible" - Rich3 months ago

Were you on the same network (same external IP address) as your colleague's? If so, that's likely the cause as Dropbox expects to see the referrals sign up from a different network from your own. If that's the case, you can try contacting Support and they may be able to look into it for you.
Otherwise, make sure they've installed Dropbox on a computer that has never had Dropbox installed previously (mobile devices don't count), and that they've verified their email address.

I sent referral invitations to friends and colleagues, three of them registered and installed the app. I'm sure that at least two of them did it on computers where Dropbox had never been installed(the other is not sure) and with new email addresses, but I did not receive the 500 MB for any of the three, and the status of all of them is "ineligible". I read all the conditions for receiving the bonus and they have all been met, so I don't see why I wasn't given it. - Megan3 months ago

Hi there, tminnx, welcome to our Community!
We're going to have to look into account-specific info here. For that, I just sent you an email in order for us to investigate further.
Reply back to me, and we'll take it from there. Thanks a bunch!

Windows 11Question or Issue
A friend I referred to created a new Dropbox account and installed the Desktop app on a newly purchased laptop. But my referral was deemed ineligible. I suspect it is due to sharing the same WiFi network. We are both students using the department's WiFi. There were many similar cases before, and I brushed them off because I was too lazy to come here for support. But after so many ineligible friend referrals, I need to seek support here. - Walter3 months ago

At this point, your best bet would be replying to your existing ticket for more information Sharonteosl.

Dear Jay,
Thank you kindly for your reply. Is there anything that can be done about it now or is it too late? Can she re-download at a different location?

Hi Sharonteosl, thanks for your message.
I checked the support ticket you mentioned, and my colleague mentioned that the referral itself was detected as an abuse of the referral system, and not about you personally.
In general, for the future, it would be best for new users to accept your referrals when not located on the same network as your own, in order to prevent the referral from being seen as ineligible.
