Space unavailable when trying to access a shared folder. Is my quota not enough?

Dropbox Plan
Basic 2gb

I have a brand new Dropbox account with nothing saved in it so completely empty. My employer at work is trying to share with me her work Dropbox account which still has space available. However when I click the link it flashes up that I don't have enough space to access the files. Surly I don't need to be on a business account as well to be able to get to them?

In order to accept a shared folder, you need to have enough available space in your own account to hold the entire folder. This is because when you join a share, you get your own copy of that folder in your account.

If you're getting a message that you don't have enough space, then the folder is larger than the available space in your account.

If you want edit access to the folder, then you'd need to upgrade your storage so you have enough space for the folder. Otherwise they can send you a view-only shared link to the folder if you just need view access.

If your employer has an actual Business account (not just a regular account used for business purposes), then they can invite you to join their team. Doing so would use one of their licenses and you'd have full access to the team's files.
