Cannot directly open file from DB Dash
I was excited to use DB Dash, and like the fast and thorough search capability BUT the fact that you cannot actually open a file from the Dash window renders this feature unhelpful. When clicking on a file in the Dash results it opens up a browser page with the same list and only there can you actually access the searched for file. This adds an unnecessary step that has caused me to pretty much cease use of Dash. Sigh!

Hey there butterpickle, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
I just gave it a go on my Windows device and clicking on a video file which I have available offline on my computer, for example, opened the related app, in this case my computer's Media player.
When you say browser page, are you referring to the Dropbox Dash window or a web browser window?
Do you notice this with all types of files of yours or just some?
Any additional information or screenshots are more than welcome!

tnx for the reply Walter . I search using the Dash window (viz the icon in the status menu in the upper right of my Mac UI). My expectation is to be able to click on the search result in that Dash window and open said file. Instead what happens is when I click it opens up a browser window which is essentially a duplication of the Dash window results, and then I have to click on the file again in order to open it in it's relevant application.... hoping this is just a setting toggle for me that I missed as opposed to a bug in the workflow?

Hi butterpickle, happy August 1st!
Just to clarify, do you use the latest version of your browser on your device?

Thanks for clarifying that for us butterpickle
Could you maybe try another browser and let us know if you get the same results?
- butterpickle3 years agoExplorer | Level 3
(1) not sure how to... it's not like I have an option when I click on the file. I guess it just hooks into system prefs for default apps?
(2) I'm guessing you're trying to eliminate variables by asking me to try this but I'm not going to be changing my browser just so I can use Dash. Have you had other complaints about Dash and Brave?(3) Now I just also realized that cmd+E doesn't open Dash... I have to go to applications and open it manually there
(4) I also just noticed that the Dash browser icon flashes in my status bar... is it supposed to do that?

Thanks for the additional information butterpickle
Could you check the "Shields" session of your Brave Browser and check if there are any 'Shield are up' for our application?
- butterpickle3 years agoExplorer | Level 3
Brave Shields block trackers on web pages so it'd be irrelevant in this scenario. I go to Dash App first and then Dash sends me to my browser viz a Dash webpage that shows the same thing that the app shows, only I can open the results via the Dash web page and not directly via the Dash desktop app. Plus, I don't have any issues opening an DB webpages w Brave

Sure. I'll note that NOW when I click on a file returned in the Dash app popup window, it opens the file in my Brave browser window. Prior (and what I wrote in about earlier), it would spawn a Brave browser tab containing the same search results that were shown in the Dash app window, and from there I could click the file and it would open in the appropriate app. So, eg, I clicked on a .docx in Dash, then it opened a Brave tab with the contents of the .docx
