Do i need Dropbox on File Provider? Can I enable the beta app version without using it?
hi all.
i really didn't like the slow and un-intuitive file provider experience with dropbox so i went back.
firstly does anyone know of any actual advantage or disadvantages?
it seems there are various things like 'we recommend it' or 'its the newer system' but ive yet to fully grasp why its of benefit to me or us.
can anyone put forward some actual real life reasons to / not to?
thanks!

it seems when ive done that its moved all the content over to the cloud storage without asking me to opt in.

Hey Benjamin Gordon! Thanks for posting on our Community and apologies for the delayed reply.
Dropbox now requires an update to use Apple’s latest File Provider framework. This change is part of Apple's platform updates for macOS and is necessary for Dropbox to continue working smoothly on your device. The new File Provider integration allows Dropbox to work more seamlessly with macOS (please check this Help Center article for more info).
As for going back to Dropbox for File Provider with the beta app version, can you clarify a few things for me first?
Did you completely log out of the desktop app and then sign back in, when switching to beta? Or did you remain logged in the entire time and simply updated your Dropbox app to the beta version?
If the former, did you choose to opt out of File Provider, during the sign-in process, and to use your old Dropbox folder?
Let me know more info.
