Dropbox Automatically Enters Startup

Dear Dropbox Community,

Long time Dropbox member.  I am puzzled by Dropbox automatically goes into my Mac startup apps everytime I sign in.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening.  It is annoying and I put up with it until I go into system preferences and delete it from "apps at startup."

I don't recall giving Dropbox permission to do this and they should delete this "feature" from their app.

Thanks,

Frank

  • These are your online settings DiMarco - not the desktop app's preferences.

To bring up the latter, you'd need to click on the Dropbox icon in your menu bar

If you don't have one, it means that the desktop app isn't running/installed on your computer at the moment.

Hi DiMarco, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Have you tried disabling this option in the Dropbox desktop application preferences?

Keep me updated with any progress!

Thanks so much, Jay, but I was unable to find this option in Dropbox Preferences.  I was able, however to select 2-step verification.

Could you possibly direct me to the location in Dropbox Preferences where the option to disable Dropbox from my Mac startup can be selected?

Sorry to sound like such a dolt.  Thanks,

    Frank

Hi DiMarco, you can click the Dropbox icon in your menu bar in the top right corner of your screen.

Then click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the upper-right corner and then click Preferences.

Can you verify that the box next to "Start Dropbox on system startup" is unchecked?

    Hi Megan,

I think because I have a free account (at this time) I am unable to have the   "Start Dropbox on system startup" option available to me.

Hi there DiMarco, sorry to jump in here, but I just wanted to mention that the option is available to all Dropbox users, regardless of the plan they're on.

Could you send us a screenshot of what you see when you bring up the app's preferences under the General tab?

Thanks, Walter, I get it now.  I was looking at the wrong "Preferences."  I appreciate your assistance.
