Dropbox Backup of an external drive moving to a new laptop

Hi all,

I have just bought a new laptop and use Dropbox to back up my external SSDs for Photography and video work.

I have set everything up on my new laptop, but when I plug my external drive in, it reads it as a new drive and asks to start a new backup. To change the settings of my old backups, it asks me to log in to my old laptop.

Is there any way to tell Dropbox that this drive (same name) is the same drive it has already backed up? Or will I need to re-back up all my external drives through my new laptop, which will take a long time?

Thanks

Hey Zaff_26, thanks for reaching out to our Community.

If you don't have access to the old computer, I'm afraid a new back up folder will be created, even if it's the same external drive.

The original back up folder will only update if the external drive is connected to the same device used to initiate the back up.

I hope this helps, but let me know if you have any questions.
