Question or Issue
I am running the latest version of Dropbox Desktop on Windows 11 (25H2 version, build 26200.7840). I set the system tray manager to show the Dropbox icon, and everything worked as expected. With the most recent Windows update to 25H2, the icon no longer shows, although the program is running and can be accessed by clicking the "expand hidden icon" buttons. You can see from the screenshot below that the Dropbox is set to display in the Windows -> Settings -> Taskbar -> Other System Tray Icons menu, yet is not shown in the (circled) home icon area, although it can be accessed by expanding hidden icons. Doing the obvious things have not helped (shutting down Dropbox and restarting it, rebooting, turning off the "Show Dropbox on System Tray" option, rebooting, then turning the option back on). Anything I can do short of uninstalling the entire desktop program, rebooting, and then reinstalling it from scratch?
Hi there James S.95 - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Have you tried dragging the Dropbox icon directly to your system tray (shown in your screenshot?
This should help, but please let me know of any updates!

Thank you Walter; that worked! It's amazing all the workarounds we find for dysfunctional Windows functions - it's like finding synonyms when we can't spell the original word. Desktop icon manager doesn't work, but there's another method that does.

Glad to hear that helped James S.95 - let me know if anything else comes up! When it comes to your Desktop app manager, have you tried rebooting your computer?

Yes, and the fix is permanent. Thanks!

I have exactly the same issue — Dropbox icon hid in spite of being set to show — due, apparently, to the most recent recent Windows update. But dragging the icon from the Hidden Icons menu to the Taskbar is prohibited by a circle with a line through it (Windows 11 Home, 25H2). Can I change some other Windows setting to keep the icon in the Taskbar permanently?

All of my advice is given in my original posting. Do that first.

This worked: Opened Task Manager as Administrator, ended all Dropbox processes, restarted Dropbox.
