Application Affected (Dropbox app & backup) Device (Optiplex 3060 i5-8500, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD) Operating System/Browser (if using the web) (Windows 10) Dropbox App Version (if using the app) (236.4.5918) Question or Issue For the past few days, a folder called "log" within the dropbox system folders, specifically "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Dropbox\logs" is constantly growing and growing.. occupying my entire hard disk! please help.. Not sure if they're at all related, but the following points have recently changed in this computer: 1. I bought a new SSD for backup purposes, which I have set to backup by Dropbox It's 2TB, 900GB of which are occupied, it's connected over USB and it doesn't seem to actually backup.. 2. I removed Avast and installed Bitdefender instead. I was running Malwarebytes and Spybot in parallel, though these have now been removed. I have noticed that the Tray Assistant almost maxes out my CPU use, as well.. Any ideas of how to troubleshoot/resolve this? Many thanks!110Views0likes9CommentsAny way to get the taskbar window on Windows to be in dark mode?
Recently migrated to Dropbox, immediately setting preferences to dark mode. Works for the preferences page, sync & storage, webpage, but not the taskbar window? It's like a solar flare. Is this a glitch or a purposeful thing? Using a Desktop: amd cpu, nvidia gpu Windows 11 recent update Dropbox most recent version 236.4.591888Views0likes6CommentsMake explorer icon overlays optional
(Windows) Many customers have been wanting an option to remove these green sync status checkmarks for nearly 10 years. If business is serious about communicating a file's status, do it via a tag or custom Explorer field or something we can opt into. These checkmarks, especially in thumbnail view with images are really annoying.45Views1like2CommentsMy Windows 11 File Explorer freezes, when I take an action on my Dropbox files.
Since the upgrade of my computer on mid august, I suffer an unbearable bug with dropbox. Note that only the dropbox folder is making issues ; all options work well on the website, and that problme occurs ONLY while I'm in dropbox folder. The issue When I double-click on a subfolder, when I right-click on a file (in order to share it as a link for example) or when I replace a file (like copy/paste a new version), 90% of the time this file explorer window freezes. If I let it runs, it may or may not eventually make the action after 1 to 10 minuts. If, during this time, I open a new file explorer window and navigate into it until I reach Dropbox, the exact same problem occurs on this second window. That makes Dropbox totally unusable to me, so I consider switching to google drive instead of Dropbox after many loyal years. My workflow is badly and painly handicaped by this bug. I tried to uninstall and reinstall dropbox, to move it from a Sata SSD to an NVME SSD (and back), to update it, update windows, update nvidia drivers. I even udpated my bios. I also tried to disable my firewall. Nothing works. I readed many other users topics encountering the exact or almost same issue. I tried all suggested solutions in those posts i readed, but nothing worked for me. I'm about to give up, but maybe will you have an idea to fix this. Last chance. Device (Dell XPS 9320) Operating System/Browser (if using the web) (Windows 11) Dropbox App Version (if using the app) v234.4.5591 Dropbox Plan (Plus) Since upgrading to Windows 11 two days ago, Windows Search (Explorer search) no longer finds files stored in my Dropbox folder. On Windows 10, I used to add the Dropbox directory to Indexing Options, and search worked perfectly — I could quickly find and open files among hundreds of thousands stored in Dropbox. Now, on Windows 11: The Dropbox folder does not appear in Indexing Options (the D: drive is listed, but not the Dropbox folder located at D:/Dropbox). The Dropbox folder seems a virtual reparse point, which Windows Search ignores. Expected behavior: Windows Search should be able to index and find Dropbox files (at least those available offline) when Smart Sync is enabled. Actual behavior: Dropbox’s Smart Sync implementation seems to prevent Windows Search from indexing the Dropbox folder on Windows 11210Views0likes17CommentsLaplink PCmover Win10PC->Win11PC now got 2 Dropboxes on Desktop & D'box overflowing
Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) Question or Issue Earlier today used Laplink PCmover Professional to migrate from an old Win10 PC to a new Win11 PC. Generally fine but then started getting Dropbox alerts that using way too much space, which hadn't been an issue! and it appears I've now got TWO Dropboxes on my desktop. They were I think both syncing and possibly generating multiple timeline versions on server I'm guessing. Have uninstalled Dropbox from Apps, and reinstalled, and currently chosen NOT to sync anything (hence I believe the red crosses). Can't deduce a way out of this - eg do/can I somehow remove the two local Dropbox [can't find how to do that tho] and then aim to get ONE and only ONE fresh copy down. Both Dropboxes on desktop have the same properties/sizes and appear to have the same contents/folders etc. Any help greatly appreciated! Would be good to clear the new Win11 PC's dropboxes (offline/unsync'd) and then get fresh from server.56Views0likes5CommentsWhat does "rename your existing folder" actually do when reinstalling?
Application Affected (Dropbox) Device (Powerspec PC) Operating System/Browser (if using the web) (Windows 10) Dropbox App Version (if using the app) (236.4.5918) Question or Issue I've seen a couple of questions bring this up but it never gets answered. I'm in the middle of the loop with reinstallation after having to go to a hard drive clone and it's telling me "There's already a a folder or file named Dropbox." The location where I sent it is the parent folder of "Dropbox" so it's in the location where I want it. I just want to know what happens if I click "Rename"? What does Dropbox do with the old files, and what will it do AFTER it renames the folder? Will it redownload all my files to a new folder? Will the old folder still be there? Will it actually try to merge the files? Please give me details so I can understand the entire process and not lose my files. And I assume that if I click "Choose another location" and I just create a new folder for it, Dropbox will download my entire Dropbox to that new location, correct? Thank you!153Views0likes18CommentsDropbox app on Windows 11 intermittently hangs.
Application Affected Dropbox folder and tray application Device Dell Alienware Aurora R2 Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 24H2 and now 25H2 v235.4.5905 Question or Issue The Dropbox application has been intermittently hanging on my computer for at least 4 months. I use the app to take photos with my iPhone and regularly notice that Photos from my iPhone are not appearing in my "Camera Uploads" folder on my PC. If I create a file in the Dropbox folder, it shows the two blue arrows but makes no progress. If I right If I right-click on the Dropbox tray icon, nothing happens. If I start task manager and kill all the running Dropbox processes, then use Start -> Dropbox, everything is normal again for a while. Typically, I find it hung about once a day, although it's not after anything in particular that I remember doing -- usually when I go to look for a photo I took, I find it's not there, and the tray icon is non-responsive. I'm only using 1.35% of 2.01TB so space is not a problem. My C drive, which contains the Dropbox folder in my home directory has 273GB free out of 951GB. I believe I am running the latest version of Dropbox. There's another thread From September with a similar report and supposedly an update fixed it. I do also have OneDrive, iCloud Drive, iCloud Photos, running on my computer and the Adobe Cloud as well, although I think they handle sync differently. Any ideas as to how I might resolve this problem?55Views0likes5CommentsVisiting the Dropbox web page breaks my PC's WiFi.

Application Affected Dropbox program on PC Device (HP laptop) Operating System/Browser (if using the web) (Windows 10.) Question or Issue I have Dropbox running on an old machine. I would like to put it onto a second, new laptop, but when I install it on the new machine, I never saw any option to tell it that I have a desktop folder on the other machine, \Dropbox, under which are all the files I want to sync and back up. The newly installed version jumped right in to copying the tree structure from my Dropbox account into a default directory \Users\barry\Dropbox. I stopped it and restored things. So how can I do this? (Last time I synced a new machine, there was a similar problem, but the configuration options were accessible.) Thanks very much. BG64Views0likes8Comments
