Hi everyone,
I just wanted to follow up on my message above.
- The 404 error should never happen again. We've deployed the fix. Thank you so much for your help in finding the root cause of this issue
- dl=1 and raw=1 now work exactly as you requested
Please let us know if there is anything else you'd like us to add to the Capture links to make them even better.
Thank you so much!

4 years agoHello everyone,
My name is Youcef. I work at Dropbox and specifically on Dropbox Capture. Thank you all for your feedback. I appreciate it.
We just added support back for dl=1 and raw=1 for those who have asked for it. For Slack, a Capture link should also show a preview. If it does not, could you please share the link you've used? If there are other places where you'd like the preview to show up, let me know, and I will make sure we build that as fast as possible.
For the 404 errors, Jessica, I just sent you one email to understand why it's happening. We will get that fixed too.
I will be around this thread answering all your questions and addressing feedback.
Thank you so much!

Thanks for adding back the "&raw=1" feature - I use it to embed the images in Gmail, but the new Link https://capture.dropbox.com/XXXXXXXXX?src=ss&raw=1 is a redirect which is not supported by Gmail when adding an image by URL. It works if I past the link into a browser and then use the link shown in the URL, but this is an extra step which was not needed before.

Noted. Let me talk to the engineering team and get back to you on this.

Hello Youcef,
I received an email saying my issue is now solved and my ticket was closed, however my issue is definitely not solved. None of my issue has been solved at all, you've only gathered information from me, but I'm still stuck with capture URLs that do not work at all - the URLs return a 404 and they do not unfurl in slack (or anywhere for that matter). I'm still stuck with having to go view the file on dropbox and create a shareable link from there, which as I've stated - isn't a solution for me.
Since it seems this cannot be fixed so that capture URLs work (and apparently you won't let us go back to the old dropbox URLs that did work) I'm just going to remove dropbox and go back to Google Drive (at least those unfurl for me in slack, and don't return a 404), and move on.
Good luck to everyone else!

Hey Jessica,
Super sorry about the confusion. Someone from the team should have let you know but could you try to take a screenshot again now? it should revert back to the old links until the bug fix is successfully deployed.
Thank you very much! - YoucefDropbox4 years ago

Also Jessica, I just got back to you on the other support thread. I can call you today as well to assist you and get this sorted as soon as possible.
For the others, could you please share with me an example of a link that didn't unfurl / show preview on Slack? It should work.
Thank you all for your patience. I will be around here answering your questions. My direct email is youcef@dropbox.com also if you need any other thing.Thank you.

Took one, here's the link I get: https://capture.dropbox.com/EAvHr2AdHUJvjwmr?src=ss - as you can see, it is still a "capture" URL, and nothing ever loads there. So no, it has not reverted back.

Understood. To confirm, this a link you just generated now right? Also, are you using this with a Dropbox Account that is part of a team?
- Jessica D.204 years agoHelpful | Level 6
Yes, I just took that as I wrote my response.
My account was previously associated with a team, but I don't believe it is any longer. Where would I look to verify that?
- Jessica D.204 years agoHelpful | Level 6
Looking here, I don't see any teams associated with my account: https://capture.dropbox.com/Aek2bAz2icpiAPcq?src=ss

Not sure but the problem I highlighted originally is back.I'm not sure it was fully understood though.
We've managed to bypass the issue by moving the dev team to Loom instead of Dropbox, but some of the team don't have Loom so still hoping this gets resolved.
When we take a screen shot on a Mac using Command + Shift + 4, you drag a box, you get a link, however the link previously was a dropbox link instead of Capture.
Here is an example https://capture.dropbox.com/70II7kHGHSadcTwF, you see this link can't be embedded even in your editor. your editor here complains it's not a complete URL.
Previously it would create a link to Dropbox with a dl=0, we'd change the dl=1 and it would directly load the image in an editor like this.
Do you know if this is a problem, or have you disabled the URL's for dropbox images completely now? Off course I can take a screenshot and drag the image from my desktop to the box, bypassing Dropbox completely, but previously it used to upload it (it still does upload it!) and create a link to the dropbox file in my copy/paste buffer, which I'd then just paste into the editor image url box. Now that link I've put in this message here can't be used in the same way.

I use this feature too, but since the last update it works again in e.g. Google Mail - just add "?raw=1" to the link:
https://capture.dropbox.com/70II7kHGHSadcTwF?raw=1But you are right, it does not work here at dropbox where I get the same error as you when I try to insert an image with the parameter:

Thanks it seems raw=1 solves the trick on the new Capture links.

Great to hear. The dl=1 works now for Capture links. Thank you so much you all for the feedback!

Was a reply ever given to Jessica that included how to completely remove the capture to dropbox feature? I want it gone and I cannot seem to remove it no matter what I do. Please do not tell me how to "fix" it so it works properly. I want to REMOVE the feature so that I can screenshot and paste the old-fashioned way that worked for me for years.

Hey Cat_CO-OP, thanks for posting on our forum today.
Here is how to do it:
- Make sure the Dropbox desktop application is installed and open on your computer.
- Open your Dropbox desktop app preferences.
- Click the Backups tab.
- Uncheck the box next to Save screenshots and screen recordings to your Dropbox.

Youcef,
It sounds like you're the person to help me understand what the heck "capture is," why it's working in the background on my desktop computer, how can I disable or delete it and stuff like that.
I have a business supreme (the top level) account but I'm the sole user, the soul team administrator and only have one team -- that team is me and me only.
I keep seeing the computer saying it's backing up or processing DonRayCPTR or something like that.
What the heck is it?
Why is it there?
If I have nobody whatsoever with whom I wish to communicate (whatever Capture communicates -- I don't know) and I don't see why it's doing anything on my account. May I please be rid of it -- especially since I can find no place anywhere that tells me specifically what it is and why I (or anybody else) would need it -- whatever "it" is.
Would you be kind enough to send me an email that addresses this giant question mark please? My email is [Removed as per Community Guidelines]. I'm not sure how I would find a reply to you and this forum. If there's any other human being who understands what I'm asking -- and has a simple explanation -- I'd welcome and EMAIL from you as well at [Removed as per Community Guidelines].
Thanks so very, very much.
Signed,
Baffled in Burbank.

It has probably nothing to do with Capture. I suspect you might have turned Dropbox Backup on. Follow instructions here https://help.dropbox.com/installs-integrations/desktop/how-to-use-dropbox-backup#disable to disable it. Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks very much, Youcef.
If you wouldn't mind, please tell me what Dropbox Back up is so I can understand what's going on. Do you understand what the CPTR means? Thanks.

Hi donraymedia, Dropbox Backup is a feature that allows you to automatically sync and backup certain folders on your account to Dropbox, namely Documents, Downloads and Desktop. It's unrelated to Dropbox Capture as they are different features entirely.
Regarding the CPTR, could you attach a screenshot showing where you're seeing this message?
