Have you tried to click on the icon to open the Dropbox window, then go to the Notifications tab?
Do you see any unread notifications there?
Keep me posted.

I'm having the same issue. There are no notifications anywhere. I've even turned off the badge preference in Dropbox Preferences, though it's unclear they are related. Still nothing. It's annoying seeing a new item notification and have it signify nothing. I may have to remove Dropbox from my computer if there is no resolution.
