The Dropbox menu shows under a different Dropbox path on my Mac, and not the one shown under "Sync".

That's odd indeed. Have you tried signing out of the app, and then signing back into it?
Also, what do you see if you hover your mouse over the little Dropbox icon in your menu bar, next to your WiFi? Is the app's syncing status "up to date" and what version do you use?
