How to stop the desktop app backing up my pc
How do I stop the Windows App trying to backup my PC. There are no settings when I open the app, only my list of files in DropBox. Since I could not stop, this function, I just deleted the desktop app. If someone can tell me how to stop this problem, I will reinstall.
Thanks for any help.
Going to taskbar settings and looking at list of apps on the taskbar, Dropbox was not turned on. I turned it on but the icon still didn’t appear. I reinstalled again and still no luck. I restarted my PC and it finally appeared. 👍

Hi Regc, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
You can disable the Dropbox Backup feature by following these steps.

Also, the app also placed files on my backup flash drive. I don’t appreciate that because it is a password protected drive. 😡
have deleted the desktop app until I can trust it.

As you've deleted the app, it wouldn't be possible to delete the backup and restore the location of your folders to their default location easily.
Let me know when you wish to continue troubleshooting.

Can you fix it where it doesn’t do PC backups? It doesn’t do it on my iPad.

Dropbox only does backups if you enable it. It's not able to back up your files on its own. Either you enabled it in Preferences, or during installation you just clicked through the prompts and allowed it to back up your files.

Thanks Rich.
If I did that by mistake, is there anyway to undo it short of reinstalling? I find no way to change preferences on my PC once it is installed.

The easiest method is to have the application installed.
From what you originally stated, it sounds like you were clicking the wrong icon to access Preferences. You need to single-click the icon in your system tray (near the clock) to open the Dropbox application. If you were clicking the Desktop (or Start Menu) icon, or you're double-clicking the icon in the system tray, it just opens the Dropbox folder, not the application.

I reinstalled the app and was careful not to check backups; however, there is no icon installed in my system tray.😩
My PC is running Windows 10. There was no icon there the first time either.

Click the up arrow ^ just to the left of the date/time. That shows you the hidden system tray icons.
