Solved

I'm unable to sign in to Dropbox on Android via multiple third-party apps.

Application Affected
Apps that use Dropbox like Solid Explorer, Wardencam
Device
Multiple different Android versions/devices
Operating System/Browser (if using the web)

Multiple different Android versions

Logging into Dropbox through another program (e.g., Solid Explorer, Warden cam, etc.) does not work. Dropbox itself is working, but problems is not that.

For example, in the case of Solid Explorer, permission is requested but login fails. Wardencam just gets stuck on login (when selecting Dropbox as the destination). It must be a problem with Dropbox?

This is what I've seen in Finland/Europe. I've also tried different, completely independent internet connections/operators.

The logged-in app may work*, but if you shut down the aforementioned app, you will no longer be able to log in.

* Edit. It seems that there is no access to the Dropbox, so this not really help.

  • Hi hölökynkölökyn ,

The issues encountered with these apps may be related to a new certificate rollout. This rollout is starting with short validation windows before making the change permanent, which is why this may seem resolved.

Please see more information in this blog post.

    We recommend the following:

    • Ensure your third party app is updated according to the third party developer
    • If you continue to run into issues, contact the third party developer -- they will need to ensure they have made the appropriate updates according to the blog post

Welcome to the community hölökynkölökyn , and thanks for the detailed report.

Since Dropbox itself is working, this behavior usually points to an issue with how the third party app connects to Dropbox. Please try updating the app, Android System WebView, and Chrome, then disconnect and reconnect the app from your Dropbox security settings. If it still fails, the app developer will need to update their Dropbox integration.

But this started suddenly (4 hours ago) with two completely separate programs that have been working for a long time. There were no updates for either program, nor were any expected.

And when it suddenly stops working on three different devices that haven't been modified.

Hi from me as well, hölökynkölökyn! I’ll also have to agree with Dell here, since you mention that Dropbox is working properly on your device.

If you’ve already tried all the suggestions that he provided above, I’d also recommend reaching out to the developers of the third-party app(s) to see why the connection keeps failing.

I'm also getting the same issue using Dropsync on android. It can't be an issue on every single 3rd party app's end at the same time. My desktop client doesn't even sync anymore, there's something going on with dropbox. Can you please address this instead of shifting the blame?

There's something really strange going on here. Reinstalling Solid Explorer and so on doesn't help.

Wardencam has sometimes had trouble logging in, but they usually fix it quickly.

I managed to connect some File Explorer to Dropbox. Solid Explorer didn't.

Dear Dropbox, I have been using Solid Explorer with Dropbox for several years. The fact that something suddenly stops working (for the first time for me, and I have been using it for over 10 years) on three different devices, all of which have different versions of Android. Something has also been done with Dropbox!

It's working now on Dropsync as well. Looks like Dropbox is having issues that even they aren't aware of. It's working again, for now, but I still can't sync on desktop using their own desktop client.

    Hi Pctv007 ,

Thanks for your post, I understand how frustrating this is.

The issues encountered with this app are related to the new certificate rollout. This rollout has been on-going with short validation windows before making the change permanent, which is why you are still having issues with this app.

The third party developer needs to update their SDK version so that they aren't using an outdated certificate. More information is included in this blog post. Additionally, we have communicated this to all developers using outdated SDKs.

Unfortunately, we don't own or control that third-party app's code, and they'll need to update the Dropbox SDK they are using in order to resolve the issue.

Please reach out to the third party developer to let them know you are experiencing this issue and will continue experiencing this issue until they have updated their Dropbox SDK in accordance with the blog post linked.
