Storage space
I am a free account user with just the basic 2 GB of space. My computer shows I have 715MB and my dropbox app also confirms I have 1.8GB unused space. So why am I getting messages saying my Dropbox ...

What does www.dropbox.com/home show in terms of files? Is that the same as on your machine?
What about www.dropbox.com/account/plan ? That is the quota that matters

It appears DB was archiving my backed-up DB files on my passport backup drive? Not sure how that was done? So I need to turn that off...
I do not recall setting up DB to archive files from my passport backup HDD!! Wonder how that happened? For my notes, how to get to the Backup page from home page:
I deleted my DB backup files and now I can finally use DB again. Thanks Nancy!!

In general, once you plug your external drive to your device, Dropbox should show you a prompt in order to start the backup. Is there any chance that you accidentally clicked on that option? If so, then external drive backup should start immediately.
