There is no such feature for this I'm afraid. Weekly digest update emails are the most that can be done.

My suspicion on this is that the volume of emails it would generate would just be too intense and cause issues with spam filters etc.

We had the same question- since we manage a lot of shared folders it is hard to keep track of all the uploads. Is there any way to flag certain folders to make sure we are getting notified? This would be a game changer!

No. The only email notification for activity in a shared folder is a once-weekly digest.
