How to give someone else access to my dropbox

Can I give someone else acces to my account without sharing folders or links? in other words give that person a second login to my dropbox? (without them having necessarily a dropbox account of their own)

DO NOT SHARE YOUR PASSWORD WITH THEM!!!!

Doing that effectively makes them the owner of the account, the same as you, and allows them to do ANYTHING they want with it - delete it, change password, change the email etc. and if they do YOU HAVE NO COME BACK as you permitted it by giving them the details.

The only SAFE way to do this is via Shared Folders.

This is bad advice so I have completely deleted it. Apologies to Mark and Rich.

Obviously, I wouldn't do it with people you don't trust entirely. Never with strangers.

The advise from Anselmou is BAD ADVISE. DO NOT DO THIS! You should NEVER share your account credentials for any service.

Anselmou, I have edited your post to remove your advice.

It is completely incorrect and can lead to termination of your Dropbox account due to violation of the Terms of Service.

Put it this way, imagine if people you knew had your Facebook, Twitter, email, bank, Amazon passwords. How would you even know who did what if they did any untoward actions to your account, or purchased stuff in your name?

Please do not suggest this to any other user on this, or any other, forum. Sharing account email and passwords will only lead to tears.

Thanks everyone for swift reply. Don't worry I will not share my mail and password.

Unless I'm doing it completly wrong, I can't share a folder with someone who hasn't dropbox, can I? The free version of Dropbox is not good enough - too little space.

I actually would like to give them acces to some folders on my dropbox with their own password whilst I remain fully in charge of adminstrating those folders

That’s right, however you can workaround this in two ways, though it just use two links.

Firstly, create a shared link for users to view the folder. Anyone can access this even without a Dropbox account.

Secondly, create a file request link so they can upload files to your account. To make it even more intuitive, have that location of the file requests to be the same as the above folder. This way, they can later see files that have been uploaded to the folder with the shared link.

Hopefully this could help with your situation.
