Problem of merging in reinstall
Hi.
Why on earth this problem is not solved already? Las time I had a new laptop 5 years ago I had same problem. Cannot merge old folder, always Dropbox renames old folder Dropbox(old) and starts to sync from cloud into fresh one? And yet again it sync's 3 days on a row (I have close to 2Tb, yes I like to have it, yes I pay extra for it, yes I have good ISP bandwidth) And yet again I have to wait 3 days to get it sync'ed because I chose to pay extra.
5 yrs ago, brand new laptop, and problem is still the same:
- advanced /Browse For Folder
- (Who in the right mind holds it in C drive?!
- Why only so?! C:\Users\YourName\Dropbox
- Hell no for that, I have 2Tb data in Dropbox, I need some for my programs too!!!
- I choose D:\ and OK /"Merge with existing Dropbox folder?"
- Yes please, than you very much!
- Hit Merge /and your problem starts
- error for that "There's already a folder or file named Dropbox."
- dah?! Of course it is, is it not The Merge?!
- error leads yet back again or you give up and suck with new folder on D:\ Dorkbox 3 days
- "Choose another location" so it cannot merge - why not? give me feedback, no?
- "Rename" and start waiting for with your money 3 days before you can work again with Dorkbox!!!
Seriously, Dropbox, this is The user satisfactory problem. To wait more when you pay more to you?
Have you worked with that solution?
Somebody will leave your Dorkbox for good and will not let You know about it, for OneDrive.

People that have plenty of space on their C drive. Mine is a 4 TB drive. Why would I put Dropbox anywhere else?

That's not the only location you can use for your Dropbox folder. It's just the default.

As long as you're not using Selective Sync of marking files as Online-only (i.e. you sync everything to your local drive), then you can do the following. It's the same process I use every time I move Dropbox to a new computer.
Rename your existing Dropbox folder to Dropbox _OLD or similar. Install Dropbox and select the location you want for your Dropbox folder. Remember to select the folder one level above where you want Dropbox. If you want it at D:\Dropbox, select D:\ as the location. Continue the installation as normal.
As soon as the installation is complete Dropbox will launch and start to sync. Exit the application. Move the content of Dropbox_OLD into the newly created Dropbox folder. Once the copy is complete, and not before, launch the Dropbox application again.
At this point Dropbox will begin indexing all of your files. This process will take a while, especially if you have a lot of data to go through. During this time it may say that files are uploading or downloading, but it's only transferring comparison data and any changes that it finds. Be patient and LET IT WORK. If you have a large number of files it will still take a long time.

Much appreciated for your patient explanation, Rich!
I believe that is the solution, merge option got me pinned.
I waited out that 2 days option, but I'm sure your solution would work.
ps. I would edit out if I could that emotional linguistics part, aswell reference to that OneDrive.
