There wouldn't be a method of doing so, since this is a security measure.
As you don't have access to edit the membership of the shared folder, the only option left would be to copy the data into a new folder on your account, and then share that folder with everyone else.
Once you're certain everyone is in your folder, you can ask them to remove their access to the old shared folder.

The Dropbox 'owner' has an account, but he passed away a year ago. I know his Dropbox account id and password but when I log in it sends an email with a login code to his .comcast email account. Is there any way that I can login to his Dropbox account without Dropbox sending a code to the .comcast email?

I duplicated the folder and it seems I am now the owner of that so I should be able to give others access. Thank You
