5 months agoEmojis in filenames are finally here! 🥳
Hey everyone! We’ve got some exciting news - Dropbox now supports way more characters in filenames and folders! Emojis are now supported across all surfaces, and it’s available to everyone! That means support for emojis like 🚀, 🎵, 🏴☠️, plus rare scripts like 𩸽, اللهِ, and even mathematical symbols like 𝛑 or 𝔸. This long-requested update fixes the issue of files not syncing properly due to unsupported characters, so everything now works just as expected.
Whether you’re jazzing up a folder name with a little ✨ flair ✨or using your native language to stay in flow, we hope this update brings a little extra delight to your day and the way you work.
Give it a go and let us know what you think! And of course, thank you to Link1328 for the idea and everyone who contributed to the thread!

Happy organizing!

Happy New Year hottiehandmade, we're looking into this but with much of our team still away on holiday it may take a little time to investigate. We'll circle back with an update once we know more. Thanks so much for your patience!

Removing the space does not change anything and flexible file name is already enabled.

Just to check, could you try removing the null character at the end of the file name to see if this helps?
Alternatively, have you tried enabling the flexible file name feature?

Thanks for that. I was wondering if you were hitting the filename length limit that exists in Windows, and emojis complicate that as they count as two characters each.

I am still having some trouble syncing my files that have emojis in the file name.
What is the filename length, including the full path starting at the drive letter? For example, the following would have a filename length of 98 characters, including the extra null character at the end.

Hi hottiehandmade, thanks for your message.
There should be full Unicode support for filenames, and full emoji and character sets.
Could you confirm that you've updated the Dropbox desktop application to the latest version?
This will help me to assist further!
