What happens if I delete a folder someone else shared with me?

Hi. I hardly ever use Dropbox but I might have a new need for it. However, I have to clear most of what's already in my account to make enough space. One thing that's on my list of Files is a Folder shared with me by someone else. I don't want it - but it's a "shared" folder. If I delete it from my side, does that delete it everywhere? I don't want to deny it to anyone else; I just need it out of my way.

Thanks --

Good question. If it is a shared folder, the folder will just be temporarily deleted in your end but the owner of the folder or the person who shares the folder can still be able to see everything. In clearing up space due to big amount of Shared files , you may refer the instruction on this link:  for you to be able to leave the shared folder  and make up a storage space into your account.
Let me know if you have other questions.

Hey JohnA69! Glad to hear it's all good now. As for the link to the Help Center article, you can try this one instead.

Hi, kirksuzukiii, and thank you for your reply. Although I wasn't able to follow the link (it seems to be inactive), I was able to clear everything. I thought it a little odd that even though I cleared every file from all folders, the indicator didn't update to say "0 bytes of 2 GB" as I expected. I set the Dropbox task aside and came back 24 hours later. And now, that's exactly what I see so all is right with the world. I got what I needed. Thank you again 😊
