Add .dropboxignore directory to exclude folders without using selective sync
Please please please can you add a feature that allows folders to be excluded from the Dropbox account (on windows and mac). For sure I'm not the first person to request this, but I'm yet to find a good explanation of why it's not there. A quick google search reveals loads of people also looking for the same feature. I really like the workflow I have with dropbox, but it's getting to the point where I might switch providers in order to allow better selective sync.
I've seen hackish solutions using selective sync, but it would be great if this could be done in one of the following ways:
- global pattern matching eg "node_modules"
- a marker file in the directory like .dropboxignore
- a simple right click context menu "Ignore this folder"
Other than that, keep up the good work. Cheers.
Tom

They really don't care, guys. We are just a bunch of "poor" developers and they are really looking forward to conquer the 'word-excel-powerpoint' clients. Did you received their last marketing letter? A broader market of companies aka more profit. Which is what a company, any company, need to focus on, I know, but it's kinda sad nonetheless.

+1, paying customer and I'm strongly considering switching due to the lack of this feature

+1 -- going to drop Dropbox for personal use if this is never implemented. The inability to keep my working "Code" directory in sync across computers is becoming a non-starter. BitTorrent Sync offers this functionality.

Give us this feature! It's simple to implement, it makes everything easier for everyone.
I'm syncing an unity 3d project between four computers with dropbox and symbolic link and it's working beautifully except I don't want to sync .meta files. There's zillion meta files that are all unique to the user, meaning dropbox will sync useless shit in massive amounts.

Agreed, this needs to happen. Especially now that I am a paying customer because my 40gig phone-signup promo expired and I couldn't be bothered moving my stuff. Well played DB, your marketing tactic got me.

Please create something like a .gitignore for DropBox (.dropboxignore???)!!!

This would be great. Others have said it better than I can. +1

I like the 3 different approaches, but if you have to force rank solutions .dropboxignore would be at the top.
