Every time I try to it just says in a red box at the top "please provide a name for the new folder."
This has happened every time I've tried for the last 3 weeks - I've tried on several different browsers, and also changed the email address on the account, and cleared the cache.
Any ideas? I've contacted Dropbox to no avail, just had an automated response telling me to go into their extensive new help section which gives me no answers.
Do you see a tiny little blue icon of a folder with a <plussign>+ on it at the top of https://www.dropbox.com/home
? click just once on it and a new folder will appear waiting for you to move your cursor to the blank and enter a new name for the folder. (do not press enter until you have provided the name.)
Thanks Rick, I have been using Dropbox for around 7 years now and it's never done this to me before.
Every time I click that folder with the + it just provides this warning, and no actual folder appears.
I've been able to create one via the app on my phone but can't do it on my laptop!
Clear cache on browser and make sure laptop is running latest version of DB (6.4.14)
I have cleared the cache on the browser and I am running the latest version, sorry I tried to state all of this in the initial post to save confusion.
Never hurts to check those things... I can repeat the phenom if I double-click - could your mouse settings be doing that? Have you asked at www.dropbox.com/support ?
This identical thing is happening to me - has for months. I cannot add new folder. Any solutions?
The only way I've got around it is that I can create new folders via the iphone app, but still unable to do it on a browser - and I've contacted Dropbox help team 3 times just to be ignored!
On www.dropbox.com/home click on the icon of a folder that has a <plussign> on it.
But remember that you cannot have a shared-folder inside a shared-folder.
Thanks Elspeth. I ended up trying it on my phone earlier today - and it worked - same as for you. And Rick - gee thanks for the tip. 😉 I'm pretty sure I knew to click the add folder icon. I've been using drop box forever. This is a glitch.
