Hi.  I'v having issues with logging into an existing dropbox account on a windows 7 pc.

If i roll back to version 15.4.22 I can see the login and I am able to enter my userid and password but then it tells me the version of software is too old and i need to download the lastest version.

I've tried the lastest version - 24.4.17 and all I get is a blank screen.  I've tried a few different versions, 18,19 and 20 versions and get the same blank screen.

Anybody have this issue?  Any solution for this?

Hello, there is no acceptable reason that you should have a blank screen when trying to set up dropbox.  I found this on several random work stations in different environements.  You shouldn't have to change your firewall settings or your virus software.  Dropbox is dated and obselete.  My solution that solved my problem company wide is I went to Control Panel, Programs and Software and uninstalled Dropbox.  Then I went to One drive and downloaded their software and it works flawlessly everytime.  I then did the same thing on 20 other workstations within my company and said goodbye to dropbox.

I agree with casinoexp. The 'answers' we have gotten are unacceptable for the issue at hand. The software worked up until an upgrade sometime this past fall (US area fall). Now all of a sudden it might be firewalls, VPN's or security issues? I don't believe that to be an issue. Nothing ever changed on my end for any of those, of which I have no VPN or recent security changes to show at fault.

My recent 'tech support' chat with someone in the Dropbox support staff stated that this was not a documented issue? I dont know how they can say that as I even referenced this forum thread itself showing how far back it goes, and how many people have complained about this on a Windows 7 OS platform.

My take is that Dropbox is no longer supporting Windows 7 OS and really doesn't want to deal with the hassle of figuring it out. Quite a pain for everyone who still runs that OS and had no reason to assume it would stop working for some reason.

Also One Drive is Microsoft.  It works flawlessley without any issues of anykind.  I promise you that one day in the not so distant future you will be saying, "hey you remember when everyone used dropbox"  Yeah, what happened to that.  Oh, I think it dissapeared the same time Aol instant messenger did.

I'm not sales person for One Drive.  But my iphone allows for uploading photos to one drive.  Download it, its free.  You can try it for yourself. Thats what I did before I made the switch.  Also if you have office 365 it comes with 1TB of storage for free.

We still support Windows 7 and above, only Windows Vista recently became unsupported for the desktop app.

In general, a blank login screen, or any issues during that specific setup phase of the Dropbox desktop application is connection-based issues.

This is why I suggested checking out anything that can affect the connection, that being proxies, VPN, firewall, antivirus, or other security software.

We have received similar reports in the past, from entire regions, where the setup phase isn’t being completed. Turns out the ISP was blocking these Dropbox domains from connecting

If you’re still experiencing these issues, even after contacting your ISP, we’d recommend writing to us directly, so that our team can assist further on this matter.
