Hotlink allowed? Is it allowed to embed a dropbox audio file in a wordpress audio player?

Hi guys,

is it allowed to embed a file that is hosted on dropbox to an audio player in wordpress?

Or does Dropbox have any registrations with hotlinks?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards

Hi @gustavgans1, thanks for messaging the Community!

It depends on how the audio player works. If it allows the previewing of shared links from the Dropbox site, then it could work.

You might need to force the file to render by changing the dl=0 to raw=1 in the shared link.

Keep me updated with any progress!

Hi Jay, thank you very much for your answer.

Yes it works that the audio player loads the audio from dropbox.

My question is, if there is a limitation of traffic or any policy on the dropbox side that i can not use the dropbox audio in a wordpress player?

When for example a bigger amount of people press play on the audio player will then dropbox block the link to the player?

Hi @gustavgans1

Yes, there are limits on the shared files.

Personally Id say do not use Dropbox for this - it is not intended or designed as a content hosting system and so things do change here (link settings / formats for example) which can suddenly stop stuff working. You would be much better off using a proper hosting tool than trying to force it on to here.

Thank you Mark for the answer.

Which other hosting tools would you recommend?
